Consumer choices track gas prices. When gas hit $5.00 a gallon, Prius sales will go up - way up. And I'll be crying as I hit the $100 mark to go 300 miles in my truck...I think it's rather unattractive and I would not want to get in an accident with one.
While there is a market for these econoboxes, manufacturers need to be careful. Americans (given a choice) want big cars. Always have and probably always will. There were two interesting bits in the news over the weekend....Prius sales are down 45% this year and the number one vehicle sold in the US is....

They ARE making good cars as is Hyundai...i just said they were not the type of cars i like...kia anyway..i like the hyundai tiburon....hence why we have one.You all are freaking nuts, Kia is making some damn fine cars as is Hyundai. You couldn't give me a Chrysler product, biggest piles of crap on the road.
To the OP, the Soul is fun little car. My wife loves hers, the gas mileage is good, it handles great...we got the sport package which has the 18" rims, the sport tuned suspension, etc. But beware that it's not the smoothest riding car around with that setup. Will hold 4 real sized humans with ease, i'm 6'2" & can sit in the back seat behind the driver with that seat all the way back very comfortably.
You couldnt give me an American made car. I will take my Hyundai and Toyota any day thanks.

Although I will note that many Japanese designed cars are built in both Canada and the US.
