So I stumbled across this on Youtube... a 6 year-old finished second in the <8 group at the San Diego Junior, apparently. The kid has a lot of game, as you can see, especially considering he'd fit __inside__ his bag.

You're probably thinking that's amazing, right? Turns out the kid only finished 10th at the "World Championships". In the __6 and under__ bracket.

My jaw is the floor that there even IS a 6 and under bracket for 'World Championship' golf. And that so many kids are spending every free second of their childhood practicing. Does the world need this many more Sean O'Hairs? Isn't there some middle ground where kids can just play golf?

You're right, that is amazing! What's even more amazing is something I noticed in the second vid... That kid can hit the ball solidly by starting his swing with his RELEASE! Get that kid to an instructor ASAP! All those kids have the talent to play at a very high level, obviously. Hope they don't burn out.

That is interesting that they have a 6 and under flight. I picked up golf at a very early age. Played 18 just after turning 7. Some of my best memories from childhood are from playing golf. I had a friend that lived 2 streets over and he was into golf as well. He was two years younger than me, but just as big. We had great times playing in the summers. We both played baseball, so we did not spend our whole life at the course, but we probably would have if given the choice.

I was funny when were were 14 and 12 we would go to a course and get paired up with a couple of guys. Usually the pair would be a little leary of us, that is until we would smoke our drives off the first tee. Neither of us had much money growing up, so some golf school wasn't in the cards.

It is interesting to think if we would have lived walking distance to a course how we might have turned out.

Kids do get too serious too early in life with sports. My daughter has been swimming for 2 years now. She turned 8 a couple of months ago. We used swimming as a good way for her to get exercise. But swimming is a crazy time consuming sport. The older kids on the team practically live in the water. I don't know if my daughter would ever be good enough to do that, but I am not sure I want her to be that good.

My 8 year old. His swing would be alot better if he would use his smaller clubs. I bought the next size up Ping Moxies and ever since he saw those he refuses to use his "old" clubs (The ones that actually fit him.) and insists on using the bigger clubs. Big mistake on my part.
