Could anyone recomend some better 2nd hand fairways that are not going to break the bank?

Adams Tight Lies
Olimar Tri-metal
Taylor Made vSteel
Several Callaway models
Wilson
Cobra

all available in abundance on eBay, new and 2nd hand. Remember it's the shaft more so than the club that will make the difference, so make sure to factor that in.

I reckon you could pick up something decent for £50-60

I bought a Ashton 13 degree 3 wood on ebay with a stiff MFS shaft for $85. Its the hottest face COR allowed and is very playable from the fairway or rough. EBAY IS YOUR FRIEND!!

If money had no option I would get a cleveland launcher composite 3 wood. Callaways I would avoid because the price tag and the face design is harder for the average player to hit from the ground when not tee'd up.

The knife is a good club for the fairway. If you use it off the tee it will take some work to get used to.

Any callaway will be easy off the tee and the turf. Older models can be had for less than $70.

I agree with OB (again... actually I pretty much always do...)

If you can find a Callaway Steelhead Plus (the 2nd generation of the steelhead circa 2000, NOT the Steelhead III), it's probably the best fairway wood ever made. The proof lies in the fact that many tour pros still use this fairway wood.

I happen to know a couple that still use them.

For the hacker, the great big bertha is the best. Great off the tee and very good from the turf.

Hi

First post- but about a club that I think is great

I play off 7 and have used a knife for last year. Great off the deck if you've got a bit of grass under the ball- not so easy off tight lies. Good and dependable off the tee ( slight draw- the face is toed in about 2 deg. Hope this helps

Why do so many people love the steelheads? I cant hit my strong3 to save my life. At least off the fairway or tight lies. The very center of the face is the only place you can make a soldi contact and catch all the ball on it. Most people are going to a flatter sole and longer face for better mishits as well as the ease of hitting it out of hardpan and the rough.

Looking on ebay i can only see Steelhead plus 3 woods selling for around the £50/£60 mark. Would it be better to go for one of the new 3 woods out there instead?

People like benross do reasonably cheap fairway woods anyone had any experience with these?
