During the course of a normal round, what club will you use the fewest times?

6 iron? Crazy. I use that thing all the time.

For me it's the 7 iron. Rarely used in my bag. But, I really think it depends on the course you play. And wind conditions.

Rock my lame ass home course is only 6100 yards. I could prob play to within a few shots of my handicap carrying using driver wedge and 7 iron. There's a longer course around (7000), but none of my buddies wanna pony up the extra 400 bucks to join there.

To be honest a 6 iron is a club that you just really don't use, even on long courses. Say a long par 4 is 420 (which is rare around these parts), if then you hit it 270 of the tee and only have an 7 or 8 iron left?

We have a few long par threes that if they are playing downwind, I might hit a 6 iron, but it would have to be blowing pretty good.

I drive with driver,3 wood and 19* hybrid, have a lot of 9,8,7,6 irons left, also use 7,9,56 around the green, plus the 4/5 will undoubtedly have an outing on stroke 1 or a par five.Gap wedge and wedge will be used in equal measure,so for me the least used club is......................

don't know,4 or 5 iron

We have alot of dogleg par 4's with 100 foot trees surrounding the fairways, with 6 foot scrub that hasn't been cleaned out, which makes it hard to drop a driver in a 40 yard wide fairway. So, you hit a 5 wood to the corner that leaves you about 170ish coming home. 6 iron territory. If you don't catch the 5 wood clean, you're hitting 4 iron or 5 iron, as you don't wanna hit the 3 wood into the scrub.

I played some rounds at my old home course with a 7 iron and a putter once. It was part of my training when I was 16. First round I shot 96 or some crazy score, then I started getting into the high 70's with some perserverance. You learn to utilize your distance and you don't have to hit it 320 off the tee to shoot well. A great lesson for any aspiring golfer. You look like a dork, but at the end of the round when you're shooting 75 with two clubs, it makes you look like a genius....

I hate holes like that. 5W is not too bad off the tee, but we have some shitty holes around these parts. It must have been the rage about 30-40 years ago to make these stupid doglegs at the muni type courses to make up for a lack of real estate. There's a few courses around here that you need to hit 5 iron off the tee and then about a 7 or 8 iron in. What a waste.

Well back in the day, people weren't regularily carrying 275 with their drivers. That was a long drive back then. So most guys hitting 230 with their driver would still bring the "big dog out to eat" on those holes.

Today's golf is all about slamming the ball as hard as you can off the tee and then using a super forgiving club to make the ball spin on a dime from the deep rough from a terrible lie. Long grass, bunkers, trees, directed fairways....all make no difference these days. So playing holes like these makes you actually utilize all the shots in your bag.

Or, show the holes in your game. Can't hit the 3 iron off the tee? Tough shit, you better learn....:D

There's another course just south of here that has one par 4 that's an 8 iron to the corner and a 6 or 5 iron coming home. The teebox is cut so tight against the trees, it's really difficult to try and cut anything off the corner, not to mention that the fairway narrows severly in the landing area for a 3 iron or the like. It's a strange hole, but makes you think, which I think is great....
