I've been working with drill to improve my release in an attempt to get some of my distance back. It's working very well with my irons but I'm having a little trouble with my woods and hybrids.

I'm getting a big draw that's bordering on a hook. The ball is starting right and then making a big draw back in. I know you can't analyze my swing but I know some of you guys can answer this.

If I'm lining up at the target and the ball is starting off right of target and drawing back in, is this the result of an inside out swing with a closed face?

It's seems like that's what it should be but I thought I'd confuse things by asking you guys. :D

    Dave:

I was fighting the hooks really badly a couple of months back. I went back to my instructor and he showed me that I was getting my arms "bound up" behind my body...causing me to come at it from too far inside. The swing thought I took away from the lesson was to keep my arms in front of my body.

When I do it - it works great. Maybe you could check yourself in the mirror to see if this is the case.

Thanks Bravo, that's what I was thinking. It seems like I have to be coming from too far inside to send it right and draw it back.

I'll try that swing thought, it sounds like it should work.

Funny how you can try something that helps your iron play and totaly feck up your woods.

When I get hooking with my irons (which is alot), it transfers to my woods as well, and gets me in deep do-do.

I find, for myself, that I have my right hand a little too on top of the ball. This helps with the release, but almost too much with the flatter face of a wood. I try and move my right hand ever-so-slightly towards 3 o'clock so that it's doing more of a "push" motion rather than a roll at at impact. I still get the same result, but it's a subtle move that I have to remember during my setup with my woods, or i end up 25 yards left.

That's odd rock. It sounds like you are rotating your right hand to a stronger position to alleviate a hook? Or am I not reading you incorrectly?

i was fighting a hook early this yr. with my driver.to my astonishment by moving the ball back in my stance it went from a hook to a slight draw or striaght.

i talked it over with one of the top golfers in our league to ask him why moving it back in my stance would straight out my shot.apparently i was getting the club face to closed and by moving it back alittle the face didnt have time to shut down on me.

i even tried weakening my grip but that didnt work.

I read it as rotating to a weaker right hand position (3pm) (take a grip and imagine being able to see your fingernails on your right hand

Gotcha. I was thinking in reverse.

I went to range Sunday and got it all worked out.....for now.

It was a combination of coming through from too far inside and closing the club head a little too early. It's weird but I wasn't doing it with my irons, just the woods and hybrids.

I think every Sunday should be Father's Day. It was nice to get up and go to the range with no thoughts of things I should be doing.

Oh yeah, I went though about 5 buckets of balls and with the new back brace, my back never got sore or stiff. Amazing.
