Dakota Dunes, here in Saskatoon, was named the "Best New Canadian Course" by Golf Digest Magazine. It's an awesome links style course that I'd stack up against pretty much any course I've ever been on.

Check it out: http://www.dakotadunes.ca/

Nah, that one I actually parred.

It was that damn par 5 after it that ate me for lunch. I ended up right of the green in that valley, 40 foot lob wedge to the green that was 20 feet above my head. Shorted it and had a sidehill. Impossible shot.

It gets up to around 100F in the summer on the hottest days, but average might be around +22C, or 72F.

"Temperatures of -50*C(plus windchill) in January and 35*C(~100*F) in July have been recorded, as have January temperatures of well above freezing and July temperatures well below."

Basically, summers are sweet and winters suck toilet.

So, like, a weekend trip in July would be stellar? What's the airport situation?

We have one. Runway and everything. :D

Northwest flies here and Saskatoon. It's a 2 hour drive from here, but it's simple to get there. Or, a 20 minute drive from Saskatoon.

If you came to Regina, you could play Deer Valley one day and drive up to Dakota the next. Hell, I might even tag along...we could meet BBD up there.

I suggest riding at both courses. I've walked them both, and it's a be-atch.

If you had three days, we could play White Bear GC too. it's about 2 hours southeast of here.

Sounds like a plan. July is pretty dead by me, and hopefully my game will be consistent enuf by then. If we do this 'bama thing in the spring, we might even suck some more guys in. Either way...

I'll just get directions from Mrs. Buddha.... ;)

Come on up Farquod. The weather's great in July.

Rock, I've golfed Deer Valley too and you're right, these are tough courses to walk.

By the way I won a free round at Dakota Dunes at our staff Christmas party on Friday night!!

Sweet.

I have a good Deer Valley story.

A guy that I work with got a two for one pass to DV in late October. He phones me at work and says "You in?".

I say, of course I am.

So, he phones out and makes a time. Keep in mind, it's like October 27th. It surprised me that the course was still open, considering it's in the valley and the frost watch would be on til damn near 11am.

Anyways, we head out at about noon for our "1:10 tee time". Or so we thought.

We get there, the place is closed down. Tarped greens, the whole nine yeards.

We phoned the same number that he called just hours earlier and they had a new recording that read "The course will be closed from October 27th until spring 2006. For emergencies, call blah, blah, blah..."

So, there we are, standing on the deck at DV, without a hope of hitting a ball. And it's like 15 degrees!

Long story short, my friend snapped and phoned out there raging. He got the pass that originally ended on Oct 31st extended to the end of 2006, which was good. So, I have a free round coming next year.

What a pissoff tho! It was super funny after the fact, but at the time, we were both pretty steamed. LOL.
