What type of clubs and drivers would give me the longest drive?

Anything could it's mostly up to you and your swing :) You just gotta go to a golf shop/range and hit a little of everything and find what you like best. There is no definative answer.

How long have you been playing? Without knowing that it's hard to give any decent advice.

I've been playing in my free time for about a year and a half. I just wanted to know if you all knew of any clubs that might put a few yards on my drive. Right now I have a set of ping's that I got for Christmas like 2 years ago.

Actually that isn't going to do any good. I have seen people that have been playing for 15 years that didn't have as good of swing as people that have been playing for a year. Swing speed, mechanics, and personal preference are going to play a major role. I have a secret for you. Go and hit the clubs.

Remember there are clubs out there that will send the ball flying, but you would be lucky to keep the ball on the golf course. Distance isn't everything.

Its hard to say. What works for me and my swing speed might not work for you. Heads, balls, shafts in everyones drivers make it the "longest" driver for them. How about this dont worry about how far you hit it, just hit it down the middle and laugh at your buddys hacking out it of the woods.

How do you play? How long are your drives now? What kind of scores? Maybe a more economical solution could be a couple lessons to make sure you are swinging correctly.

I mean, if you hit every shot straight off the tee, and its not mechanics, then you should just try as many different drivers before you buy one. Custom clubs are always a choice. Sometimes cheaper, some are more expensive than the ones they copy!! I've been through about 8 or 9 drivers in the last 5 years. And have finally found one I can hit straight over 80% of the time. And that's in my sig. . .The T.Made. . .Good Luck!!

The easiest way to find out is to get on a launch monitor and try different clubs and shafts. The computer can tell you in 30 minutes what it might take you a year and hundreds of dollars to find out.

    Yep, the dreaded question.

    "What works for me?"

No one here can tell you. But, as OB pointed out, getting on a monitor will help you narrow down the type of equipment you need, but not the name on it.

Today, drivers are so damn close in terms of specs, it's more esthetics than anything. So, once you find out what shaft flex, kick and weight you need, along with angle of head and swingweight, go out and buy the driver that fits your eye best (after demo'ing it, of course). It's apt to hit just as far as the next one.

Good luck in your search, and let us know what you went with! :canadafla

Listen. What Dave and I endured in Portstewart has obviously scarred us. I often wake up screaming at night.

Consider our discussions here as a form of therapy. With your help, we shall recover.

I can imagine that sleeping with Dave would be very tramatic.

It's also very good of you openly admit your love for Dave so easily and publicly.

    When's the wedding? ;)
