Hello,
Newbie to this site, been playing golf a few years only.

heres a quick bio FWIW

My first clubs were a "replica" knockoff package set. They worked fine for me, but I always had trouble getting loft with them as I tended to roll my wrists (like baseball)

After a few years of playing, I seem to be ok with the loft problem I slowly got better with my wrists and I went to a shop and got the highest hitting irons i could find.

One funny thing is that I do tend hit my clubs way long. (I am talking 220+ with a 7 iron, Lob wedge well over 100 yards etc, ) The reason I think (besides my violent swing), is that I also tend to de-loft the face all of my irons unintentionally. Working on this problem.

Since I stink with my woods, I never replaced them, as I rarely use them. (I usually tee off with a 5 iron, and hit about 240)

Now to the point - after all this time , I think it's finally time for a new driver and 3 wood, and time to actually learn how to hit them.

I dont care about name brands or anything (like my buddies), I am most concerned with good value. So what manufacturers offer good quality woods for good prices?

thanks for your help

You can't go wrong with the TaylorMade R500 series. They are a few years old now and can be found on ebay for practically nothing. I've tried every driver out there and none of the new ones are as long as my 580XD.

Dunlop Loco Pro Driver ($100)

Dunlop Hot Metal 3 wood ($50)

Check Dick's Sporting Goods. I had the Loco but switched to a Cleveland Launcher 460. The Loco hit great for the time I used it.In fact my friends sometimes ask me to bring it so they can use it. I still play the Hot Metal 3 wood, I like the weight of it and I hit it well. Hope that helps.

If you can find a callaway great big bertha 3 wood that would be where I start.

Don't buy a driver until you can hit the 3 wood consistantly. If you hit the 3 as long as the irons you won't need a driver for awhile.

I can't help but think that there is no way he is hitting his irons that long.
