"And now on the tee, in all her HD glory, Ms. Laura Davies!"

Do you honestly believe there isnt an economic disaster/downturn going on around the world????

Yes I do, see below for Rock's answer.

I think what he's referring to is that this type of thing has gone overboard and people are jumping on the band wagon more and more. It's not that it's not happening, it's just not as huge as the media puts it on.

People will start opening their wallets again, they just need a reason to.

R35

Exactly, it becomes a self fulfilling prophesy with all the chicken littles running around & screaming how the sky is falling. Sorry but I just am not seeing it, hell I ate a restaurant the other night where it cost me $197 for the 4 of us & the place was packed with a few hundred people. It's almost as if it's cool to be going bankrupt & screaming for the governments help. The companies I see pulling this crap are huge public corporations & a lot of it comes down to nothing more than corporate greed. The smaller privately held firms are actually hiring people & business is booming. Funny how the economy supposedly sucks yet my company is in the midst of one of our best sales qtrs as well as forecasts ever.

Remember things like Bird Flu, SARS and even to some degree, 9/11? It's all blown completely out of proportion and eating at will by the lemmings.

These are the same people that get pissed off when gas prices increase with demand. Go figure, Einstein.

If you sit back and sleep with the money in the matress, you're part of the problem, not the solution. If people ignored the media more and lived their own lives without dependancy on someone else to tell them how to live, it would be a better place out there.

We live in a sea of bullshit, and each one of us is on a little raft trying to stay afloat.

R35

It's the medias intention to scare us & tell us how bad off we are, if they tell us often enough maybe we will actually start to believe it?

This is as close as you're getting, MC:

What amazes me is the idiotic insistence of the great masses out there to believe that whatever is happening right now will happen in a straight line forever. Remember a year ago, when the Euro was so much stronger than the dollar and no one would ever buy our treasury bills again? Remember six months ago, when fuel prices were only going up and we were all going to have $6 gasoline this winter? (Sorry Rock--you do.) And on and on. If we really believed that what is happening today will continue at this trajectory forvever, we'd all just stock up on canned goods and kerosene, beccause the entire financial system is about to implode. I don't buy it.

Behavioral economics is a really fascinating area, and I want to do some sniffing around and see if it sheds any light here, at least to the extent we're dealing with a crisis of confidence as much as anything else.

Okay, MC, here's another picture for you:

Nobody honors heroes of industry. But they will sympathize, humor, and steal from the heroes in order to support the failures.

When money runs thin, the lesser and unnecessary sectors of the economy fail. It's natural. Unfortunately, the LPGA just isn't that popular.

But based on what I've seen, they're entitled to a bail-out, because... they need it.

I found this on another site.

.I wrote about the Shoprite debacle two years ago. To make way for Ginn, the LPGA gave the shaft to Shoprite who rather than take crappy dates on the schedule, pulled the plug on their Atlantic City event. It was an outrageous way to treat a long-time LPGA sponsor that earned Carolyn Bivens a Knucklehead award a few months later when she gave the shaft to another LPGA tournament sponsor, Wendy's. Don't forget ADT pulled their sponsorship of the year ending West Palm Beach tournament last year because of tournament pricing, not a change in marketing as the LPGA claims.
I wonder how LPGA headquarters will spin the Ginn Story? Some how I imagine a official speaking with the song 'Don't worry, be happy.' playing in the background.

The Shoprite tournament mentioned was held at my home course for many years and my company was one of the sponsors of the event. Paybacks are a BITCH........Or is it Carolyn Bivens?????
