try to go and demo a set. they are forgiving but not most forgiving iron out there. if they feel good and you like them, then who cares.

Nothing beats a good demo but Mizuno would not recommend those to a 23 h/c. They recommend the 30s to 13 h/c and below. There are two or three of us here that play the MX-23s and while they are forged and feel great they are also forgiving. But who knows, you might try the 30s and love them.

You can check out what they say at mizunousa.com. Good luck. :miz:

Try the MX series like the MX-23. Personally, I've never hit them, but from what I understand, they are the players iron that a high handicapper can enjoy. Cavity back and all the feeling of forged.

You really can't beat that combo.

So why am I playing MP-33's again? :p

I'd go with the mp30, they are really good. And forgiveness is such a big word. When you hit the sweet spot of the mp30, it's as big as a quarter. The most forgiving of irons makes the sweet spot as big as a canadian looney... Making a toe hit on both irons will yield the same result...
But try demoing them.
Have fun :)

You are my kind of guy. I just got another set of 30's from a guy that just knew he could hit them, he is a 19 HC. After 2 frustrating months he sold them to me for less than half what he paid for them.

Go ahead and buy them and I will be waiting:)

I would have to agree here with OB.

The 'players series' irons from Mizuno are sweet - but, you'd probably do much better with your game going to a game improvement club.

I index at about a 4. I still have trouble keeping the 33's in my bag under control.

I do think that it's a myth that forged clubs are for better players. But I do think there is alot of merit behind establishing what is best for your particular situation, be it game improvement vs shotmaking clubs. In your case, I would opt for the former over the latter.

Just one man's opinion. The thing is, any Mizuno product you buy will be sweet as silk. The only problem is that if you buy something beyond your skill set (for right now), you'll be selling them to OB at a fraction of what you paid for them, and no better off in terms of strengthening your game.

Then, I will have to buy your old irons from OB and constantly mock you about it. I mean, it would only be the right thing to do. And that's not what we want, is it? ;)

Yeahh go and try the MX-series, I demoed te MX-17's which were very comparable to eh Cleveland TA5's I have now. While I hit the MP-33 about a zillion times better, The Mx-17 wasa good iron, It just didnt suit my swing as much as the Mp-33. Like Reginaford said above everythign Mizuno is great, just go and demo and see what works best, just dont go beyound your skill.

Forged blades are great for good ball strikers.

Having an index of 4 doesn't necessary equate to good ball striking, while having a higher index of 10-12+ doesn't necessary equate to bad ball striking. :p

I've had days where I am just hitting like crap from left to right and thinning everything but still shot 4 under to win tournaments. :)

Today on TGC they were at the Mizuno factory. The guy there said "forged" is a manufacturing process. You can have forged clubs that are game improvement, and forged blades.

So forged doesn't mean "hard to hit." Blade means hard to hit. Offset, cavity back etc means game improvement.

ok, how about the Macgregor M565's then? These are forged and aimed at game improvers. Any experience of these?? They look stunning and apparantly are very good......

opinions please.

Yes, blades are for good ball strikers. But as Media pointed out, there are many cavity back forged options out there, including a few from Mizuno. Those clubs are aimed at the very category that is being discussed - high handicappers wanting game improvement irons with the forged feel. The workability may not be there, but most guys in this category are wanting their scores to come down dramatically from hitting more greens and consistent shotmaking.

As for the MacGregor M565's, those clubs are dope. I just love the look of them. They would definitely be worth having a look at.

Wilson Staff also has a forged line out this year, but again it's for the better striker.

If you want to try out a forged set, maybe try the Taylor Made forged series. They have a couple of older models that are nice. Some guys swear by them. Or, pick up a set of Mizuno's for a good price and give them a go. If they arent your cup of tea, sell them, take a bit of a hit and call it a learning process.

Just a note, the MX-23's were named as Best New Iron of the Year by PGATour.com.

Good praise for a new model.

Also of note, I *believe* (this isn't gospel cuz I'm too lazy to look it up) that the MX-17s are not forged, but are cast. In such a case, there really is no reason NOT to get the 23s.
