Are travel / protective bags such as these now compulsary on most / all airlines ? Not that I wish to travel without some form of good protection for my clubs, but I was just wondering.
Off to Portugal in March, so need to sort something in that way. They're raather a lot of ££ for the very few times you are likely to use them, are they not ? Seems you have a deal though, budd...

I agre with you

Not being an active airline traveler (with clubs anyway) I do know that the airlines are not happy about taking golf bags. If you do not have a hard sided case, they will ask you to sign a damage waiver if your travel bag is made of canvas or vinyl. With my old clubs I didn't really care about them.

But this year I bought new irons, driver and bag which cost me close to $1,000 so I figure it's worth the money.

But you can spend over $250 for a Club Glove or Bag Boy Case.

I have a canvas travel bag, and toted my clubs several times this year on Continental and Delta. I was never asked to sign a waiver.

No damage to the clubs. The woods had covers, and the irons had a towel snaked through them.

In waiting for my clubs, often at oversized claims areas, I would say that the canvas bags were more common than the hard covers. At times, the ratio was perhaps 2 or 3 to 1.

FWIW.

My wife and I use the Club Glove Burstproof (about $180) soft bag. Never had a problem. I believe Club Glove will actually warrant damage too your clubs even if the airline will not. Just got back from Arizona and they did not make us sign a waiver on the way out, but they made my wife (not me) sign a waiver on the way back since it is a soft bag. Kinda weird.

Great bag. The only thing I do is put a Shower curtain rod in the bag and extend it out so if the drop it on the head they will not damage the shafts. They make a similar protector for about $30, but the shower curtain rod only cost $8. Plus it is probably not necessary.

I'm not familiar with it, but it looks pretty good. I expect it'll do the job very nicely.

I'm starting to think about getting a new hard-sided bag. Mine is starting to get a little beat up. After my most recent trip, one of the latches missing.

Got it!

The new Telebag arrived yesterday and it fits perfectly! For the what you would pay for a good canvas bag, it is very well made and I believe offers more protection from those gorilla baggage handlers.
