Hey! I just recently took up golf and of course have a problem slicing my drives. I tried a demo club today that was offset and cleared my problem right up! I have heard that once your swing gets better then you will develop a problem hooking the ball w/ an offset driver. I have also heard that that is nonsense, if you get better then you will be able to control your drives even w/ an offset driver. Or I was thinking..hey, if I get better then I'll be ready for another driver anyhow. All opinions/thoughts are welcome! Thx in advance!

What you've said is somewhat true.

I've always been an advocate of fixing the problem rather than using a bandaid to cover it up. In other words, an offset driver is a bandaid for a slice problem.

You can hit any driver. You just have to figure out your mechanics a little more and get the head through the ball a little bit better. A slice is usually caused by an over the top (inside to outside swing), or a casting motion. Once you have this fixed, you'll be hitting great in no time.

My advice? Get some lessons. Don't get the offset driver. Another skilled person giving you tips will help temendously, as well as practice. If you set your mind to it (this game is easily 90% mental), you can create a fluid and smooth swing that will reward you round after round.

Welcome aboard, by the way. I look forward to reading about your progress with the swing and helping out whever I can!

    Cheers,
