I have the worst slice when driving. I have just always accepted it and aimed about 45 degrees to the left of my target. I am consistent but lose too much distance. Im ready to fix this problem but have no golf pros to give me lessons. I live in rural Iowa and have no one to help me. What do I do?

I understand that this could vary from golfer to golfer for various reasons but what are some of the first and most common things I should do to correct this?

Out-to-in swing. That's the problem. And I speak as a fellow sufferer...

When you look at the bottom or your driver do you see diagonal tee-marks (scuffs) leading from the centre of the face to the non-hosel end? Tells you that you swing out-to-in, causing a slice.

Not sure how to describe the best fix, others here are better than me at that. But in my mind I think of it as keeping my left elbow closer to my body on the downswing. And it seems to be working.

Good luck!

If it is that bad you need 2 things. A crappy 5 iron and a brick wall.
Line up with the toe of the club 1/4 inch in front of the wall, you will be facing the wall. Swing the club, the sting you now feel is the club hitting the wall. Keep swinging the same way, after a few swings you will find a way to keep the club on line, you will be cured.

I agree, you will never slice the ball again, but you will also not be able to hold a golf club again as the bones in your wrist will be dust when it goes wrong!

Go back to old threads

This is a common theme, and has been discussed here comprehensively before....

I usually do not recommend 'widgets' or swingaids here but the Inside Approach is a legitimate device for helping you with this. It - essentially - produces the same end result that obagain described with his five-iron/wall method...

I bought one for my dad last Xmas and it really helped him.

Other than that, you have the most common fault in golf history and unfortunately, the best way to cure it is with professional help in person.

Keep your right elbow in and concentrate on swinging the back of your left hand towards the target.

I've battled an upright swing for a long time and finally got the right elbow where it belongs...it really feels like I am not swinging with as much power but I've actually gained distance due to much better contact and a square clubface (well, most of the time anyway).

Agree with Bravo, too.
