Ping G2 or Nike Ignite 460?

I want to purchase a 460 cc and I NEED SOME HELP!! I have hit the G2 and like it but I have continually been told that the Ignite is longer? What is the main difference between these two drivers? Most say Ping because they are strictly about golf and that Nike is simply a marketing company? Any suggestions?

I haven't hit either.

But if your only stipulation is that it has to be ~460 cc then I have good things to say about the Launcher 460 with NV. It's on closeout now all over ebay as well. Sorry to complicate things :)

G2 or a launcher. The nike is a good driver but we hear better results from these 2.

If it was 30 yards longer and just as straight I would sit up and listen. But these tests forget to tell you that there is <5 yards between most of the top brands. They say they are independednt but I doubt they REALLY are. They are also done under specific conditions at swing speeds that may or may not match yours.

You have to consider shot dispersion as well. I know that Nike didn't do terribly well on that stat. The Cobra was pretty impressive on that count.

I would say in selecting a driver, go for something that feels and looks good, so it makes you confident when you stand up to it. Once you have a head you are happy with, then spend time and $ getting a shaft to match your game. Talk to your pro or try out several models or shaft and try and get it to match your swing speed, trajectory required etc.

I would say that if you hit 100 with the G2 and 100 with the Ignite, there would be little between your best 25, both in accuracy and length (assuming the same shaft, conditions etc.)

Most of the top drivers (and irons and balls) have little between them apart from marketing muscle. So to sum up, go for what feels and looks right in your hands and get the right shaft in it.

Just my 2c

I've been giving this some more thought. I remember an interesting thread on this before.

Assuming all these drivers ar etested on an Iron Hogan under similar variable conditions such as humidity and temperature, then you are only beginning to unwrap the situation. Consider the following variables:

Swing speed
Loft
Flex and kick point of shaft used
Type of ball used
Variation from sweet spot
Height of tee used
Wind conditions (into / against)

You also need to consider distance carried, roll-out and shot dispersion

I'll bet most of the top manufacturers can max out their results by optimizing certain variables and so claim to be the longest driver on the market!

eg Ignite is longest @ 100mph using a Top Flite ball on a 2" tee downwind.
Swing at 120 using a prov1 on a lower tee into the wind and it will be the G2...and so on.

It took me a few seconds, to catch on that you were referring to Iron Byron... unless they have one named Hogan now too

I started the season with the Nike, went to the G2 then back to my trusty tiny sweetspotted 983E.

There isn't much between them and it will be down to preference rather than performance imo.I thought the G2 was longer,by a small amount, and the Nike straighter (possiby shaft lenght had something to do with it).But thats just my experience.

You will find that shaft selection is more important that these 2 heads I think.Get yourself on a launch monitor and ensure you end up with the right loft and shaft selection, the head is third in terms of importance imho_One guys perfect 9.5* 905 sans Speeder is another mans nightmare.

I hear they are working on a prototype "Iron Irish". It's like the Iron Byron cept it's a bit more colourful and it is programmed to hit the odd random shot! ;)
