Few years where we can't get at least some golf in all 12 months. Many, here, put the clubs away after Labor Day. We don't. If the course is open, we will play. Many winter days, we'll have frost delays. Once the frost clears, we're off #1 tee.
I understand well Mark's talking about balls hitting frozen greens and bouncing in the air. Winter is the time of loooonnnnngggg drives and a derivative of 'pitch and run'... known as putting from 20 yards in!! :>)

You'd love Wisconsin in the winter Mark. Except for the foot of snow and cold. sssmokin and I went out today and it was 48° F. Our club "big cup" scramble will be sunny but 58° F. And it's only October. Monday we'll have a heat wave of 70° F. and sunny. Trees are turning color and beautiful.
