I mentioned this the other day but while my wife and I were Christmas shopping we ended up buying a train to go around our tree. Then my wife got a little carried away and bought a whole village to go with it.

Last night we finally got around to setting it up. At first it just seemed like work because I had to build a platform for it all to go on. But once I got the train set up something wierd happened. I enjoyed playing with the train.

The whole time we're talking about how much our grandson is gonna like it but we both knew this was our new toy. We set up the village with lights in the buildings and even a road from one side of the tree to the other. You gotta have a way to get to the skating rink right?

Anyway, by this morning we were going through the Lionel catalog looking for accessories and things we'll probably add on next year. This thing's gonna take up a whole wall by next Christmas.

It reminds me of a banner I saw at a birthday party a few years ago. The birthday "girl" was turning 70 and the banner read, "It's never too late to have a happy childhood". Good advice I think.

How did I know that a thread with this title would have the words "my wife" in the first sentence...?

I remember the Rodney Dangerfield line, "When I was a kid, we were so poor that if I hadn't been a boy, I wouldn't have had anything to play with."

Dangerfield was one of the funniest guys ever.

Last night I hooked up the lights for the buildings in the wife's village. Now I just need two AA batteries to light up the street lights and I'm just about finished.

You just never know what's gonna make someone happy. For two months I've been asking her what she wants for Chirstmas and it ends up being a toy train.

Aha! That's just what you think she wants! Wrong! She really wants that diamond necklace from Zales, and when it's not under the tree, you're going to be in SOOOOOO much trouble.

Nope, not this year.

Ever since I upgraded her ring a couple of years ago I keep getting catalogs from the store. I even showed her that to get some ideas and she said she didn't want jewelry this year.

Of course my first thought was that she was getting all the jewelry she wanted from Silver and Rockford. But she laughed that off and said they were too cheap. :p
