Problems over 400...

What is it with driver heads over 400cc's? Anyone else have a problem? I thought they were easier to hit but not for me. I've gone back down to the 390CC R510TP and haven't hit one better since my old 400cc quad. I'm a "normal" ballstriker though. My 3w is loads easier to hit and more accurate than my driver and my 3iron is easier and more accurate than my 3W. Same progression as loft increases, as should be.

I tend to wonder if it is the sheer height of the face that screws me all up. I just have a horrible time skying the crap out the big headed drivers.

I think it's all personal. I don't particularly like large headed drivers which is why I chose the smaller 983K. That being said, I am a better ball striker now than I was when I chose my driver, so maybe a 400+ cc driver wouldn't be as bad. Initially, it was just too distracting seeing this giant head addressing the ball. I think it's similar to why one prefers the looks of a blade over that of a cavity back. It sounds superficial, but looks are important in golf. In my opinion, it instills confidence, which in turn will definitely make you play better.

Personally cant stand the look of 460 drivers, biggest ill play is my 905S which is only 420, but looks smaller then that. Other then that all ill use is my 905S, r7tp or 983K. I just cant find woods i really like the look of, im super picky about wat it looks like to me.

905S = 400cc and a very forward COG. Much easier to get a decent trajectory for a high swing speed player.

I didnt like the larger 460cc heads either but the Titleist appears to look the smallest of the bunch.

Up until recently I was right there with you, Ez. I too had a problem with the looks of 460cc drivers; they just looked odd and massive.

With that being said, as of this week, I play a 460 driver. There is something about Titleist's pear shape that makes their drivers appear much smaller and, therefore, less offensive at address.

My Titleist is fine for me at 400cc, after that the only 460 drivers I'd not puke upon are the 905R and strangely, the Nike SQ. I don't mind the shape of it now, it's grown on me

i agree.. i had the r7 draw and even that looked alot bigger then the 905R. I like the fact that the 905R looks quite compact for a 460

Ez I agree totally, I hit my FW much better then my driver. Which makes me wonder why I should use the 460cc drivers.

Heck, the original r7 looked bigger at address than the 905R to me.

I agree about the SQ being less offensive as well. My theory is that the really tall faced drivers could be the problem. The 905R and SQ both hae modest face heights. Nike also plays with the eyes by making the part that extends past "normal" light grey so the club, to the eye, appears to be smaller.

Yeah, I too prefer the 400cc head. My R7 is staying put, I feel. Wouldn't mind trying out an X flex in it though as my direction with it ain't been too good of late...
