Gosh, I have GOT to get better at putting; I only 2 putted 3 greens yesterday, the rest were 3s. 15 strokes wasted!!!!! I coulda had a 82!!!

So, more practice is needed. My living room is hardwood floor, so I need a putting surface. The room is 15 feet long, but the biggest "cheap" mats I see are only 9 feet long. Is that enough, or should I spring $250 on a BigMoss 6 feet X 12 feet monster mat?

Me, too. 6 3-putts yesterday.

Buy the big one, send it to me, I'll try it out and let you know if it's worth it.

I'm going to jump on this train too. I don't really want to get a putting mat, but I need something to pull my putting game out of the crapper.

If your looking for a great putting mat look at Linksputt. That's what I use in my academy and it's great. Comes in 3 different sizes and can be set to hundreds of different breaks. Best thing ever. Their website shows some video clips. They are based in England.

Those Linksputt mats are very nice. Pricey though, and not sold here in the USA?

Being a cheap bastard and wanting something right away, I bought a 10foot low pile carpet last night for $20 and a electric putting cup for $14.

Works great in my living room for putts 3 to 10 feet, which is where I seem to make most of my 3 putts.

Found out last night that I seem to pull most of my putts to the left. Hmmm....

Sib, lie two clubs down as "tracks" for your target line, just far enough apart that your putter head fits without hitting them and then practice going back and through that line without touching them. Straight back, straight though. That should stop the pull.

Good luck.

SiberianDVM; You can get a putting mat that's 7 or 8 foot long. Cost is about $30 or less. The material is felt, so if you need/want to practice longer putts some times, buy a piece of felt at a fabric store. Buy a 2 yard piece and you can add it to the end of the mat and hit 13 foot putts. Have more room to work with, but 3 yards of felt if you want. Problem solved, and it's more versatile then having to live with a 15 foot putting mat all the time.

Lowe's has turf carpet I used for my backyard green in 12' rolls, only $7 a linear foot iirc, buy 4', and you are good

baranow: I got the same stuff. I use it to stand on in place of the hitting mat so I don't ruin my lawn. But it's not the same thing as what the putting mats are made of. Different texture so the ball will not roll the same way as it does on the felt putting mats. Hard to say which is closer to a real grass green, felt or the turf carpet. Having the carpet outdoors and the putting mat indoors might be the best way to go.

My carpet is working well for now; if and when I decide to get something more expensive it will probably be this adjustable thingy from PuttGolf

My putting is not my greatest game BUt on my last round on the 18 hole, i have a very good putting round for my putting standards.

I dont get a putting mat because i own a Bronze Card at my local club and this lets you get free 9 hole and 18 hole and when you get a 9, 18 or driving range ticket, you get a unlimited time on the pitching and putting green so i just use that.

Thats a nice looking practice green. I have been hinting, begging, and pleading with the spousal unit to install a back yard putting green, but the puttgolf looks even better (especially the price) with low maintenance and easy storage. As they say where I grew up, I want want one wicked bad.
