I need a cure for ClubHoe Syndrome. I Built my x-16 copies a few months ago, with good results. Broke out the 845s on a lark a bit ago, with good results. Now, my buddy is tempting me with a set of Mizuno blades at gimme price. I'm such an equipment prostitute... :(

I'm actually interested in hitting the blades, as I like my neighbor's Nike Pro Combo set. I'm pretty scared that my swing is getting really sloppy with the mucho-forgiveness of the Acers (aforementioned x-16 play-alikes), as I hit them well, but my woods and driver suck now. I hit the TAs well, as long as I keep hitting them and leave the game improvers in the garage-- maybe a bit of distance loss. I may actually end up with a Mizuno, TA combo set. LOL

Anyway... Confessions of an IronHoe...

Crowe,

Pick them up if they are a steal. If they aren't your cup of tea, sell them. Perhaps i'll even buy them!

You can't go wrong trying out the clubs first, if that's your worry. I'm sure he'd be willing to let you do that.

What Mizuno's are they? And what flex are the shafts? (Not that I'm looking for a set.....well, maybe.... )

OK, here's your solution. Take the money you would spend on the Mizunos and send it to me. I'll just use the money to buy golf stuff I don't need but I won't feel guilty about being a ho because it won't be my money. It's perfect if you think about it. :D

Oh, he's bringing me the zunies today, said play them as long as you like, pay me if ya wanna keep em more than a year or so (good friend, LOL). He says they are MP-12s, but I can find nothing online about an MP-12. I'm hoping he means MP-14s, as the reviews on those are great. I'll find out today. I work with him and he's picking them up at lunch and giving them to me after work. We'll see.

Dave. That sounds ALMOST like the perfect remedy. Just IM me your home address, and I promise you'll get something from me. :D

If they are MP-14s, ask Rock if they'll suit your swing. He'll know better than any firsthand test will tell you.

Makes sense. I've never been one for demoing anyway. I'd rather see someone else do it and expect the same results. :)

Agreed.

Actually, your best bet is to buy them and then send them to me. Then i'll tell you if they're good or not. :D

If they're the 14's, that's a good setup.

I'm not singling you out Crowe, but you're thoughts of switching clubsets just brings me back to the point that component/clone clubs just don't have the feel of OEM. I don't want to get into that war again, but as far as i'm concerned, it's true. I had a set of Ping knockoffs for years, and when i traded them in for a set of Bertha's, my scores went down significantly due to my irons, no doubt about it whatsoever. I contribute my success over the last 3 seasons playing golf to my irons.

Well, that and the practice.

How much is he asking for the Zuno's?

He's not actually asking anything for them. Just play them if I like them. If I decide to keep them after extended playing, give him a little sumpn-sumpn, maybe buy him a round of golf, whatever.

No wars on the clone front; we all have our views. My experience with custom are mixed. It really does depend on what company you decide to go with, and moreso even with what builder you get to assemble them. Far more component companies out there are crap than not, and far more builders don't know their trade than not-- it gives quality component clubs a bad name. The Acer XP Pros I built are an excellent set of irons. They really are. I literally hit them side-by-side with the x-16 pros and note almost NO difference, except for a slight difference in the feel of shafts. The owner of the X-16 pros agrees. The XPs are just... I guess TOO good at what they do. They are so forgiving, have such an accepting sweetspot, that my swing has gotten really sloppy. After playing them for a while, my driver/woods go south and I can't hit the old 845s. I leave them alone and swing the 845s for a day or so, they come back, along with the driver and woods. It's funny in a way.

Zunos or no. I'll probably be retiring the XPs. If anyone is interested in a massively forgiving set of irons on the cheap, only slightly used, let me know. :)
