Round One of 2005....

Well, after pressure from fellow Shot Talk personalities (you all know who you are...), I caved and played today. I also went to the range this morning for the first time, which makes me sorta crazy.

I ended up 2 over with 2 birds. Both birds came on par 4's, both double bogeys came on par 3's. Let's just say I need to work on my sad, er, sand game. What a joke. I could have done better coming out of the sand with a dead hamster instead of a wedge.

Made great time around the course too. Played with some dude and his GF, who was pretty decent when looks were concerned. Her BF sorta treated her terribly when it came to her game, so I tried to encourage her as she played. She was obviously just starting, but she had a decent backside, er, back 9..

I played fairly decent tho, one three putt (on a par 3.....terrific).

I found my long game which was non-existent this morning at the range. First drive on one was about 320 down the pipe, 5 yard draw. That's good enough for me.

One thing that I had going for me was the putter (minus the 3 putt). I had two long lags of over 50 feet to within 18 inches, which was a lifesaver. The greens had been aerated, but were actually pretty decent. Fairways were very dry and there was no long rough to speak of.

Who double bogeys a par 3? Oh right, me. Twice, in one round.

I'll take it for the first round of the year.

I'll admit, it started to slide over the last few weeks. A little bit of laziness on top of being very busy.

I wish I had have been hitting right up until this weekend. Maybe I would have been a little closer to the pin in terms of feel.

Funny story. I played the first 7 holes without hitting an iron. Only wedges, driver and the hybrid. Crazy.

isn't that the way the game is supposed to be played? thats how i play, works great, aerated greens are terrible. i haven't got to practice my short irons which killed me in my first tournament, but i'm feeling extremely confident right now, well, on second thought, i did go to the range, but was using restricted flight balls, but since the range hits toward a street and they have nets strung up real high, about 250 out and i was hitting high up on the net really straight, its always nice to come out good on the first round, keep it up rock

I use all clubs in rounds where I am playing for fun. Gotta try crazy new shots

Sounds like a good first round, congrats. I've also noticed, since adding the hybrid that I don't hit my irons as often. It's so easy to hit I think I just find ways to use it. I'm predicting there will be second in the bag by year's end.
