I have a Pitching wedge that came with my Wilson clubs, 46*. I would like to also get a Sand and Lop wedge, from what I gather from others I think I need to get not less than a 51 Sand and a 56 Lop?

Let me know if I am correct in this thinking.

My team LSU just lost to Auburn, whats the deal???????????????

"Lob" wedge

I use a 48* PW
56* SW
60* lob
and I am picking up a 52* Gap wedge tomorrow

I hit mt PW about 120 yds and the sand wedge is good for MAYBE 80....I need the gap wedge to cover the difference (which I encounter very often).

Nam,

My advice to you is to find a single wedge that will serve your purpose until you've had a little more experience with the short game. Having three wedges in your bag at this point it useless.

I'd suggest picking up a 56* wedge, regular bounce. Once you've "mastered" this club, it's time to talk specialty club expansion. But until that day, you're wasting your time and money practicing with clubs that you will hardly be using.

For what it's worth,

R35,

I picked up the Cleveland 588 RGT 56* today. What would you say the estimated hitting range for this club would be?

Thanks in advance

Nam,

This is tough to say. What do you hit your PW in terms of distance? Average pitching wedges are about 46*. So, you can sort of make the assumption from that.

Say you hit your wedge 110-115 like i do. I don't swing hard at my wedges, maybe 3/4 swings. I use my 51* wedge (sparingly) for shots around 85 yards. This doesn't happen very often for me, hence the spairingly comment.

My 56* Callaway has standard bounce, so from the fairway, it's good from about 45-80 yards, depending on how i'm using it. I like to hit it at about 65 yards, that's where i have it dialed.

My 60* lob wedge has higher bounce, i almost never use it from the fairway. If i'm inside of 40 yards, i usually use a less lofted club and hit the bump and run. I only use the 60* from the sand and for touch chips around the green. I'm gettin' pretty good at it too!

A 56* is a good choice. Figure to hit it 75 yards max. And then dial it in to something inside that that you can hit consistently with a 2/3's swing. Then, if you need a little more, it's there. It's easier to be smoother with a slower tempo'd swing than it it to try and muster 5 extra yards while swinging out of your boots. If it's 85 yards, grab the PW and choke down. Be smooth and pure. It'll work much better than pushing the 56 into the bunker.

PS>.....good choice with the 56*.....pretty soon with practice, you'll carry it around the house with you cuz you'll love it so much......uh, not that i do.... ;)
