Ahhhhhhh

Just realised that the hard plastic club divides in my cheap travelling bag has now ruined the shafts in my clubs. Last night I witnessed major scratch damage on the graphite shafts on my driver, 3 wood and hybrid. Although I realise that it doesn't affect performance is there any advice out there to remove these scratches with eg. fine sandpaper? Solvent?

Suggestions welcome.

get a better bag

my Mizuno AeroFrame's frame is built outside of the bag instead of the inside like typical bags.. so zero scratch on my graphite clubs :)

Gosh, the question was how to remove the scratches. You believe getting a better bag will remove scratches?

Technology these days - amazing! Scratch-removing golf bags, well I never.

Or, have I misunderstood, and you were merely being a smartass?

It's a beautiful thing to see the Irish haveing each others' back.

IG, I personally know of no way to remove said scuffs. Grahipe is pretty sensitive to weakinging of its layers for structural integrity, so I would advise against any grit sandpaper. Better IMO to leave well enough alone and just go in prevention mode. As a preventative, you could line the edges of the dividers with moleskin to prevent further problems.

Or you can piss on the shaft. I heard from an irish it has excellent medicinal value.

You have traveled quite a bit with your clubs. Are you certain that the scratches occurred on your latest trip? Maybe they are the result of many trips...

I still think the urine is the key here. No get out there and give it a go.

IG,

Just pull the dividers out of your bag (if they are removable).

If not, you might be stuck with that. I wouldn't venture out and use solvent or sandpaper on the shaft, you'll probably do more damage than good.

Besides the option of a new bag with proper dividers (i like the ones where you can fit 4 or 5 clubs in each, where they have their own little perch to sit in), you're best bet is to just live with it.

Sucks, but it sounds like the only way.

Thanks Guys.

As I said I already have a good bag, proper dividers etc. I just thought I would save a few lbs by bring this Ping Demo bag I have lying in the shed. It's nice and light, easy to carry etc. Imagine my pain when I saw what it did to the new gear I recently got. My Sonartecs, my Fuji shafted 983K, ahhhaaaahhhhh!!! Never again.

Ima gonna try the urine approach and some light sanding. Just gotta make sure to sand the right shaft. ;)

I was a little afraid to open this thread, good to see it's about golf.

You're screwed IG, this all about karma. No amount of Irish piss is gonna fix it either. You can't come over here and mistreat us the way you do and not expect a little payback. I've got those left handed clubs waiting in the closet whenever you're ready. :p

You guys remember the post that somebody put up at GR concerning a club they had stripped down and wanted to repaint??

Fred3 came on and just trashed the guy. Told him he shouldn't have stripped it in the first place...

Then Fred3 went down in a fusillade of machine gun fire from about six posters. We were all making suggestions about what to try (auto body shops, etc) and really blasted him...

IG - frankly, I'll bet you will just have to live with it. Those are factory painted shafts (that probably have decals or other spray painted logos).

Just tell people that they are the "battle scars of victory" from your American triumphs...

I gotta get you over here this Fall and take you down a notch.

Once they are scratched you are stuck, Paint will make it look worse. You can put a strip of electrical tape over the spot if it is bad to protect it.

If you were using the old ping L8 bag, they make a cover for them so it is not bare plastic anymore.

Tough break. Maybe stick a transer with your name over the damage or something similar. Car wax or silicon is good on graphite shafts to reduce bag friction.
