If I play my cards well, this could very well be more successful than LIV… as part of our mission this year to improve on staff morale and the engagement with our staff. My dumb A$$ has decided to book a couple tee times at a little mom & pop course just outside of town, every other Friday, on pay week!! Depending on participation teams are set up completely randomly and we hope to play four-person scrambles. The team who manages to scramble for the best score has drinks purchased for them by the team with the worst score!

This past Friday we held our first event. My team LOST!! 😠 but I do take a bit of pride in the fact it took four people combined to beat me! LOL fun was had by all and that really was the main point of everything. I shot a +3 teamed with our gardener Shelley and my colleague’s wife Dawn. Both ladies have never really played before!!!

Next event is in two weeks!!! 😁

Sounds like an absolute blast! Kudos for coming up with the concept and pulling it off.
I'd like to do something similar here in AZ, but getting a consistent tee time year round is difficult. With the snowbirds gone for the summer and the winters being prime time, its hard to get a commitment from players and a course.
Keep up the great work you do, both on and off the course!

It really was! And to be honest, I’m not the least bit upset about losing, I sorta hope to every week. Just so I can help teach some of the beginners how to get started. Teaching the game I love to others is just fun for me. It also gives our team some good bonding time away from our course and getting to experience other courses in the area.

I hope to keep this going for the summer and see who all we can get out in the process. Will keep everyone posted on our shenanigans!

Deal!! Event 2 is in the works and we are actually expecting DOUBLE the turn out!! We might have enough for four teams! I’m, sorta at a loss for words actually. I’m not sure I expected it to be this popular of an idea!

Event 2 went off with just one small hiccup… the match was held indoors due to the heat. I’ve nicknamed this my “Bobby Jones” rule for not playing when it’s crazy hot out. My boss actually approached me and asked me to postpone the outdoor match. With how hot it had been, I was very quick to agree!!

A smaller group was still interested in doing something on the Friday, so we chose some climate controlled fun instead. We played a 2v2 match at Cypress Point, my partner and I shooting an 80 for the win!! My record improves to 1-1 😁

I want to start a similar league with my neighbors. The issue we have out here in Phoenix AZ is the heat - and the fact that a lot of my neighbors head out of town for the summers (snowbirds) - and winter golf (Prime time here) is crowded and expensive. So, getting folks to play regularly is a bit like herding cats. I would like to find an indoor place to play once a week that is affordable and can accommodate up to 8 players. I think that would be a blast. Closest place to me here in Queen Creek is 5 minutes away, but I think you have to be a monthly member and that is super expensive. The next closest place is in Mesa (20-25 minutes) and looks promising. I'll head up there and scope it out and get pricing. Followup coming soon!

I’d highly recommend giving it a try, see how it goes. Although it’s hard to put in place a “bobby jones” rule in Arizona! All in the name of fun and a good time anyway. Best of luck, hope it’s a success as well.

To my absolute shock… we have skyrocketed to 16 players this week!! Apparently the staff are talking! Haha. Event 3 is already in the works, likely again held indoors. But that’s ok, we started with 6 people the first time. Now it’s almost outta hand!! I love it!

Event 3 was indeed held indoors. The weather was again more conducive to another event held inside. We’ve been under an air quality advisory all week. So we played a virtual round in Alabama. My record fell to 1-2, slipping below .500!!

We had twelve participants and a couple fans just there to watch and inevitably heckle!! One of the teams finished -6 winning the night and beverages! I can’t wait to plan event 4!!

I’m back to .500!! Improving to 2-2 this week. Event 4! Yes, four!!! I can’t believe it’s gotten this popular and I really couldn’t be happier! We were back outdoors this week and it was a lot of fun. My team finished -2 for the win and free drinks!

Edit: the funniest thing about this week was the losing team being all under aged teenagers, so I had to buy my own beers!!
