You know, I HATE when I read people's recounts about their experience with a driver or an iron where the equipment fails. Shaft breaks, head dents, ect. I've been reading a few "real world explainations" and these goofs have nothing in terms of statistics or personal previous experience to justify their words.

These things happen. True, if it happens alot to a particular club throughout the industry and to people of all abilities and geographies, then fine. But, if you go out and buy a new TM R7 and the shaft breaks on the 4th swing, it's not because the R7 sucks. It's because the shaft was crap.

Sometimes people go off the deep end without thinking beforehand. Sure, you're pissed, but after replacing that shaft or head, I bet 99% of those people are happy with their drivers/irons/ect and you never hear about it.

Just wanted to get that off my chest.

Rant over.

Although it is better then it used to be graphite is still a hard thing to get strait and uniform over the whole shaft.

When the great big berthas first came out everyone was complaining that the shafts broke too easy.

The first problem is if you have a club with no hosel and you hit it on the heel it will break every time.
The second was that they were selling 3 times as many so of course some were going to break but no more on average than any other clubs, there were just a lot more of them being played.

The master said:
Equipment is NEVER at fault, when I'm swinging well I can hit any club.

But that's beside the point.

The point was/is that equipment fails. Stuff breaks. Shit happens.

And, if it breaks, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's crap. But some people seem to deem it garbage.

That's what the original post was about, not that equipment is unique between companies that only certain people can hit it.

And Gun, nice dig. :p

Although I've never been much for OEM shafts from Callaway, and never supported them in the past, but I see where you're going. :beach3:

Callaway shaft are not bad because they break, they are bad because you never know what you are getting. I bought a GBB when they first came out with a strong flex. I got it and it was too weak so I sent it back to have them check it. They said it was fine so I put it on the freq maching and it registered as a soft regular. That was the last callaway shaft I hit.

Most people play a shaft that is stiffer than they need so the mfg put in weaker shafts so regular people can play them. That is getting better but I still won't play an oem shaft.

Yes, what he said.

CK and I had a big discussion about this a few months back. Bore Thru OEM shafts are garbage. You never know what you get from stick to stick.

I have the Pro Series.

Good deal there tho, especially with that shaft combo. The Pro Series I hit with the NV Stiff was oustanding....

I like the look of the GBBII and also the Miz MP-001. I love my 580XD but I find the shaft too inconsistent. I don't want to pay 130 to stick the NV in it, but I want this shaft.

I am watching in ebay a 540XD and an MP001 (400cc) both with the NV. Both can be ad for ~125. I am not sure I wanna pull the trigger especially since the 3W I bought 2 days ago still hasn't arrived :D

What's my play here??

Tough choice.

Personally, if you aren't happy with your current driver, get one that makes you happy. Equipment is such a fickle thing, but it can make all the difference when it comes to confidence, whether off the tee or on the green.

I say pick one up. If it's not your cup of tea, you won't have trouble selling either with that shaft.
