Tempo

Is it possible to have too slow a backswing? I have found that by increasing my backswing speed, I can hit the ball between 20 and 30 yards further. This is not just once in a while, but everytime. If I use my normal backswing tempo, I get about 155 yards with a six iron. By increasing my tempr, I am getting 175 to 180 yards. I still seem to be in balance throughout the swing. Does anyone have an opinion on this subject? Shag

The purpose of the back swing is to build tension that will translate to power.

If you take it back real slow you will not create as much tension so you loose power. The key is a smooth tempo, not too fast or too slow.

the key is to use whatever tempo works for you,to create the coiled power and unlease it properly

there is no such thing as to slow or to fast, but you can generalise and say most good swings have an EVEN tempo that creates immense clubhead speed

tempo is so subjective from one person to the next.if you get an extra 20 yards with a little faster backswing then use that tempo.but if it throws off your accuracy you have to decide if length or accuracy is more important.

As long as your staying consistant with it. Tempo is so important for consistancy. It is not good to have a fast back swing on one shot and a slow one on the next. Not all pros have the same tempo. Nick Price very fast! Fredy Couples Slow! Check out the Tempo CD sold on Ebay it will help you compare your swing to the Pros like Tiger and Nick and Fredy. It will also help you master your tempo so you can repeat it with great consistancy.
