Just written a whole screed there, and the darn thing mucked up on me....again !! :(

Really couldn;t be bothered writing it all again, but the verdict is a huge THUMBS UP on the R7 front. I was beasting this baby all afternoon. Really feel I can make it down to Scratch next year, providing, of course, I decide against taking the Pro teaching route.

Moved the two 10g weights to the front of the clubface to higher the COG and opt for a more penetrating traj. Different class, boys.

Peace out, mo fo's :) :)

I have to admit its the best driver I've ever hit, almost. It really is very, very good.Beautifully balanced, sounds great and has lovely feel, almost like a long iron, truly a great club.

But its no longer than my 983,a club that has similar qualities in terms of feel and sound.I can't justify changing on cost grounds.

No doubt the R7 will be the club I will change to,the 904 is great, but i think the R7 has the edge.I will be going for a 400 head though.

I can't understand low handicappers using bigger headed drivers. If the main advantage is bigger sweetspots, why use one when you hit the ball out of the sweetspot all the time? pros get paid to use them,I bet they wouldn't given the choice.Els has only just moved from 360 to 400 and Scott still uses a 360.

Andy,my target is scratch next year.Wanna have a side bet? :)

My goodness gracious, you're actually being nice !

:)

Yeah man, bring it on. As previously mentioned, I may be going t'States to do the US teaching course over there, so if that happens our bet is void, agreed ?! :)

Never really been a fan of Titleist drivers. In afact, bar their Vokeys & the 905 series of Fairways, I have rather disliked their ranges over the years :( Just got delivery of the new Launcher 460's there this morning and they're looking well sweet ! Got a whole rake of the HALO rescues, too, and although I ain't overly taken aback by their looks, they are supposed to be excellent. Shaft feels pretty good, an' all :)

Geez, there are so many bloody clubs out there. It is being like a kid in a sweet shop, I tell thee !!

I'm always nice, you Scots just don't understand dry wit:)

Ok,if you go to the US the bet is off.Until then, lowest handicap come next November wins 10pence.:)

Titleist gear does divdide opinion it seems.I love the traditional looks and feel.Same with the R7,its almost persimmon like in feel.

I truly hate and loath Callaway gear,it all just feels like lumps of wood.

Glad we're both being nice again. I do agree you were just provoking & I was being, well, an arse, tbh.

I take it that Scots thing is another example ? lol. I am actually 1/4 Scottish, though !

Just never liked the really "hard" feel at impact with the bigger Titleist heads. Not overly sure about the head shapes, either. Of course, one man's trash is another man's treasure, an' all that jazz :)

My fav. brands would be Taylor Made, Cleveland & Mizuno. Never been a Ping man, although their equipment is really getting quite nice, imo ! I always hated the chunky soles of the Eye & Zing models, but they have really stepped up in my estimations this season and this coming season. Our Head Pro has always been a Ping man, but not I.

So much great, great stuff out there.

Have you ever heard of MD Golf, man >? They're a N.I.-based company and apparently they're going into the U.S. market with their stuff, so this is why I ask.

What is your h/cap anyway, lad...? :)

I picked up the game in March after a 15 year lay off,and put in cards to scratch and they gave me 2.Next year will be my first full year in comps for 20 years! Luckily,we found a house 1/2 mile form a great driving range that shuts at 7pm every day of the week, even in winter (wife doesn't know I chose the house for this reason).practice putting and chipping green plus a grass range at my club a mile away.I get in around 10 hrs a week practice,I hit balls 7 days a week.

I'm gunnig for scratch, just for my own pride more than anything else.

I've heard of MD but only from reading mags,I know nothing of them.

If I didn't have Titleist I would buy some Hogan Apex 50th Anniversary blades, and R7 driver and 5 wood, and maybe Cleveland wedges, although the Vokeys are just as good.

If you ever get in the shop a mint condition set of MacGregor Muirfield Custom blades or Muirfield Nicklaus 20th Anniversary,I will have 'em!

My mate has MacGregor Jack Nicklaus Muirfield irons. I re-gripped them for him last year - it was the first time he had them gripped since 1986. No Lie. And he is a good 5 handicapper, too. Unreal.

Chat later - have to go back to the grindstone. . . :(

They are great irons,I really regret selling them many years ago.The sweetspot is smaller than a japs eye, very good for testing your game.

Two types of people on this planet - those who are Scottish and those who want to be..!

Dave, what loft and shaft do you have in your 983?

I have been looking at 983Ks on eBay and there are quite a few. With my slow swing speed (88 mph) what would you recommend?

10.5
Take the stock speeder or ys6 shaft also in R flex.

Should run you 100$ MAX

I have the E,the straight faced model,in a 9.5,with a Prolaunch 65s,its a great combination but highly individual,i doubt it would suit everyone.

The Ks are great clubs,I would also recommend the 9.5 or 10.5,avoid the lower lofts unless you know you really need one.Its difficuklt to recommend a shaft unless you get on a monitor. Its obvioulsy a regular graphite shaft you will need, any standard shaft wilkl be fine.

They are not the most forgiving clubs to use,if you value a large sweetspot and forgiveness pff centre, then don't get one.A G2 will be 50 yards further than a 983 out of the heel, and in play!

Thanks, Dave & VT for the info on the 983. Right now I am using the Hogan CS-3 in 10.5 with the regular NV shaft, shortened to 43.5.

I'm hitting it straighter now that the club is shortened, but I still have pitiful distance (220). I was wondering if I needed a senior flex. I probably need a magical, non-existent club.
