Everyone has a favorite aspect of this grand old game. Driving that little pellet 300 yards, flipping a wedge in from 60 yards to 3 feet, or draining that 60 foot snaker that "broke at least 4 times." :D

But doesn't everyone also have something they hate about this game?

I'd like to hear if anyone out there has a fear, something that they can't control, something that urks them to no end.

Fire at will.... ;)

The only thing that ever gets me truly mad on the golf course is making a mental error. I can play an entire round of crap golf and not care all that much, but basic course management mistakes make me want to fling my club into another state.

Missing short putts is also awful.

That's what I was gonna post too ....... I could go thru 12 holes slapping everything in from 5 fee and under, then out of nowhere a thought would strike me ... I haven't missed 1 of these today ... recipe for disaster ... and strangely walkin off the putt and recomposing doesn't rid the fear either

The thing that pisses me off to no end is those middle holes when it falls apart and you think "F**K this game. The last time I paid for this much pain she had a whip." Then you get to par 5 18 and get an eagle. It brings me back every time

The perception.

If you are having a great round and you blade a wedge that goes 20 feet past the hole and you curse the bad shot.
When you are having a crappy round and you blade a wedge that goes 20 feet past the hole, but it stayed on the green:)
Same shot different perception.

i absolutely hate 3 putting a green in regulation, or hitting a perfect drive only to throw it away on the approach

Reaching a 5 in 2, then getting a bogey.

So I must say, the MOST DIFFICULT part of golf (for me) is putting.. but I wouldn't call it the worst. It can be, when you miss an eagle putt, and two putts following it, but when you DO make a 20 footer across the green through a well-scouted break, it's the BEST part of the game. I'd rather make a 20 foot putt than a 300 yard drive.

The WORST part of the game is missing putts.
The BEST part of the game is making putts.

Oh, this is it. You nailed it, Neal. There's nothing worse than hitting it 315 on a 360 yard par 4 only to be chipping your 3rd from 40 feet. Ugh!!!

Missing short putts. If sole destroying, confidence sapping and pure pissed off ratings are to be used, missing bastard 3 footers ranks high on my list.

good thread rock, i'd have to go along with you and sherman about nailing a good drive than flubbin the next shot,

short putts are way up there too, both of these things eat me up many times in a round, trying to cut down on it

somebody's look at the hole tip for short putt was just pure crap, i've never missed so many short putts

Looking at the hole when you have a 1 ft break is just suicidal.Knock that person off your tip list.

rock, i nutted one 300 down the middle into the wind, absolutely picture perfect drive, on a 360 yard hole. I then proceeded to thin a wedge that nestled up against the stone wall behind the green and made bogey. This game sucks. Oh, and one other thing i hate. Hitting a good drive only to find it sitting in a terrible lie(divot, hole, dirt spot) in the middle of the fairway

We had a conversation about this a while back - I believe there should be some ruling about a divot being treated as GUR. I realise there would be difficulties in wording the ruling, but for the benefit of course recovery, as well as fairness, I think a ruling has to be found. Hell, we can send men into space, we should have the wit to devise a divot/gur ruling!

I realise that it wouldnt make a difference to some here, as they tend to play preferred lies anyway...! :emot-ange
