Hey now, don't you go thinking the younger lot thinks Tiger is infallible. He screwed up, royally, and whatever happens as a result happens.

I'm just sick of all the massive coverage on him. I like the we he plays, but he didn't win and is in the spotlight deserved to he who did, and has for weeks.

But worst of all, I'm tired of the people who forgive everything he does. I won't judge, but I won't call him a saint either. Equally irritating, is I'm sick of people (You know who you are), that just use every single opportunity to lambast everything he does. You're just as freakin annoying as the media and everyone else.

MDW;

It's not that I don't care that he's done wrong. I don't care what he does, period. Tiger Woods is a part of my life in the following way: watching him play golf entertains and impresses me. I have my own moral compass; I don't need Tiger Woods to fill that role in my life. I don't look up to him, I don't think he's a hero. I don't care about any aspect his life besides the holes he's putting it in on the golf course. I wouldn't tell anyone he's a good guy; I don't know if he is, and I don't care if he is. Chances are, he isn't.

Maybe when I get old and brittle I'll start fussing over the fornication of famous golfers while I'm muddling through the medicine cabinet :p

Rockford: You have a valid point. He won over a lot of people, and got paid a LOT of money, on false premises. I'm removed from that issue because I never cared to recognize it. He could be loved for brushing the teeth of hand-less African boys, I wouldn't care. Tiger is valuable to me for ONE reason. Whether he succeeds or fails me as an entity is contingent upon whether he wins or loses golf tournaments.

I'm getting almost emotional about this issue because you guys are all BETTER THAN THIS! What do you care what some punk-ass is doing with his life? His nonsense caught up with him; great. He didn't even commit a crime. There are such bigger fish to fry in the world than a golfer with a questionable reputation, y'know?

When you get a little older, MDW, you'll see that :horse1:

This comes with the billion dollars in endorsment money that he has accumulated by creating a perception of a persona that he obviously was blantantly lying about.

If he's a dick, be a dick. Just don't try and sell me that you're not.

That, in a nutshell, is why he deserves every bit of dirt that is dug up or said about him.

R35

But you are feeding the machine. Making him suffer for every lie he has and every action he does that's poor now a days doesn't do anything but keep the spotlight on him. Ignore it, forget it.

I am totally with SUX on this. I may not be old enough to remember when putting any moral stock in sports figures was the thing to do. To me all of this is about as important as the celeb. magazines in the dentist office. I don't hit the white ball any better or worse due to any of Tiger's actions.

I wish Tiger would retire & move to some remote island without electricity so we would never have to hear another word about or from him ever. So sick of the massive media coverage surrounding this ass clown no matter what he does.. Win a tournament then fine, interview him. But withdrawing or missing the cut or coming in dead last. take the damn camera away & focus on the people who can actually play the game right now.

I was there Saturday and Sunday.

Tiger played like shit, and wasn't in the running for anything Sunday. I saw him hack at it the first 3 holes, and then saw him again when I was over on the 6th... Hooked the dog crap out of his tee shot, and he seemed fine with it. Talking and cutting up with people, and thats the last I saw of him.

I was over on the range a while later, watching Ryan Moore and Weekly and Luke Donald warm up, and then you see 4 carts zip by the range from the far end... Tiger on one of them and everyone running behind him.

Put it this way.. The guy is probably hurt, I won't put THAT past him. But the fact he played the Master AND Quail Hollow, and then the Players, and when he's not in contention, and playing like shit to boot, decides to call it??

Why didn't he do that Saturday night.... Because he thought maybe he'd get up there.. but by the time he went swimming on the 5th, he knew it wasn't going to work. I think it's pretty shitty personally, but really.. I was only mad because the circus that follows him started crowding all the other pairing that I was following.

All right, that's the last straw! I hereby challenge you to a winner take all match, on my home course, tomorrow afternoon at 2PM. Bring your pink slips, your house deed, your dog's rabies tags, it's all on the line. If you don't show, you forfeit. :)

I can't. Bulging disc in my neck.

It comes from ass raping chicks while married and spending the last 5 months on the couch.

TW was raised in the spotlight, and is VERY aware of the media coverage of his every move. He has made millions, maybe even billions off of it. Did he know withdrawing would steal the spotlight off Tim Clark, most likely. Did he do it at that time for that very reason? We have no way of knowing. But his past actions tend to make us belive he did know, and used it to his advantage to stay in the spotlight.

If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, and looks like a duck, its probably a duck!!!!!!!!!

This is yet another post that shows how rediculous the lunatic hate has become. Its kind of like the hatred that revolved around the rabid haters of Bill Clinton and George W Bush. There is no sanity in it. DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT TIGER WAS MAKING CALCULATIONS ABOUT HOW HE WOULD STEAL THE SPOTLIGHT AWAY FROM TIM CLARK!!!!!! ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!!! YES I'M SHOUTING HERE!!!!!

Did you ever stop to think that perhaps.........just perhaps..........his neck actually did hurt and he was out of contention so there was no need to do additional damage and prolong the recovery from the injury by finishing the round. Call me silly, but whatever. Anybody out there ever hurt their neck before? I sure have. I've been battling neck problems for almost 10 years. When I hurt it the quicker I get on top of it the quicker the recovery. If I immediatly stop whatever I'm doing at the first twinge of pain and go to anti-inflamatories and alternating heat and Ice I can cut the recovery to 5 days but if I continue to work, surf or play golf after that first twinge its usually long recovery of 3-weeks or more.

Really I think Tiger is conspiring to destroy golf as we know it. He is in a secret alliance with dark forces in Singapore, VietNam and North Korea to destroy the western world. He will continue to strategically miss cuts, screw porn stars, win golf tournaments, get injured, withdraw from events, not sign autographs, give snippy interviews to reporters who couldn't lift his jock strap,..........., ............, ........... ALL THIS AND MORE IN HIS QUEST TO DESTROY THE GOLFING UNIVERSE!!!!!!

Don't worry about what the short steppers out there think. Your posts on this topic have been far and away the most well thought out and rational.

It should also be noted that the high and mighty golf announcer extrordinaire Nick Faldo was divorced, I believe, 3 times and the great Fred Couples also had a well documented string of infidelities and broken marriages. Tiger's still on his first.

But guess what? TIGER is what everybody is talking about. The media doesn't CREATE culture. Culture creates media. Our culture does love the "fallen angel," whoever it may be. And once the media tested the water on Tiger, they found that TIGER was the new hot-button-issue. Forget legalized abortion, forget terrorism, people will flip out about TIGER WOODS.

Sportmen have become celebrities in the last few years. They have become more important than the sport they play or the way they do so. I'm sure no one would recognize Tom Watson or Arnold Palmer on the street unless he/she is a fanatic golfer, but even my mother would recognize Tiger Woods in a restaurant. My Girl Friend knows who Christiano Ronaldo is everytime he appears on an add in TV, but 99% of the people wouldn't know who Paolo Rossi (Best Italian Soccer Player in History), or Johan Cruiff (Best Dutch Soccer Player Ever) is or how they look like.

Tom Brady is a celebrity, a TMZ spot, much more than half the singers, actors, etc. He married the most famous Brazilian Model, Giselle Bunchen (who is an absolute hottie by the way). Anybory remembers Terry Bradshaw's wife's name?

That's what sport has become, and its very difficult to take the image away from the player. Tiger Woods made Golf the sport it is now. He gave it publicity, he gave the Tour an image, he made little kids start choosing golf over soccer, football, etc, because it was no longer "grand-pas" game, but a cool game where young good looking people who married swedish swim-suit models played.

Tiger Woods made Celebrity Golf, and now, unfortunately, he is just paying back for taking golf to a celebrity status. When you decide to become a public figure and an idol for some, you immediately lose your private life and accept to have a camera over you 24/7.

I agree, I would prefer to have the sport-men be remembered for their capability, but while the image sells more than the sport itself, we'll have to keep things the way they are. At the end I don't criticise that at all. Celebrity Golf has given the opportunity for the industry to keep improving, to watch the Nationwide or European Tour on TV which would have NEVER EVER been transmitted if golf hasn't become a Jet-Set Sport, etc. I guess its just getting the best of what is being offered mate...

And Fisher, as mddubya said already, don't flatter yourself. You were mentioned just because I didn't remember anybody else with such a blind love for its idol. I wouldn't want to discuss with you this topic since unconditional love has never had a rational point of view which makes every discussion to loose its sense... Believe me, you're not that important, really...

From Presidents to the privileged, we excuse misconduct by pointing out similar discretions of their peers... or those who went before. We dismiss the indescretions of an idol... of a celebrity... by suggesting "It's okay! Someone... somewhere... sometime... was just as pathetic in how they conducted their personal life." Yes, what TW does or has done has zero effect on my playing this great game and enjoying this great game. He can waste marriages and the chance to be deemed the greatest ever due to human failures. It means nothing to me. And, you are correct, I cannot control the media hype surrounding TW. Neither can I control the lack of consideration he has displayed for his fellow competitors. From a personal standpoint, I don't want to see him back in the game. I want him to go play on his yacht or entertain floosies and porn stars for the rest of his days... anywhere but on a golf course in front of a camera. I have grandkids. The last thing I want is for them to emulate someone of this character. I don't want them to ever see the old Nike commercial where the younger set souinds the refrain "I'm Tiger Woods!" If they do decide to take up this great game of golf, I want it to be for the enjoyment it has brought me.... not for the purpose of attempting to become a celebrity that allowed his money and his ego to forever taint his ability to be anything close to a role model.
Go quietly, Mr. Woods. Go quietly from this game and soothe your neck with the dollars you've made and the respect you've pi**ed away!
