Ok! another newbie here! I decided to take up this new sport and I have taken some lesson's and everything is going great. The question that I have is my bag is as follows: Big Bertha Irons 4-pw, Cobra sz400 11* offset driver, nickent 3w, sure out sw and a TM mid rescue 3 19*. Should I add a 5w?

Thanks for any and all advice!

If you're finding a gap between your irons and fairway woods, then yes. If not, then no.

5 woods are great clubs. In fact, I like my 5 wood more than my 3 wood as I can hit it just about as far. Same clubhead, different loft. Go figure. I also carry a 7 wood. It's great for those deep rough shots when you need to get it up high in a hurry and a 4 or 3 iron isn't going to help you.

Your rescue mid should fill the gap a bit, but if you still see a 30-40 yard difference in there, maybe think of filling the gap. A smooth 5 wood is always better than taking some off the 3 wood or trying to hit the bejesus out of the rescue.

This from the dude with 32 clubs in his bag...

I really like the 5 wood. When my game really falls apart on the tee, I know I can get 220+ out of it consistently. It's also a heck of a lot easier than trying to hit a two iron.

I carry mine because of the gap in my clubs:

    3W - 250
    5W - 225
    3R - 200
    4R - 185

Without the 5W, I would have to take something off of my 3W for a shot between 210 and 240. I prefer the consistency of a full swing with my 5W. So I have it because of the gap in my clubs (stated above as a reason to get one).
