The young man who is General Manager at our course lost his older siblings when he was 11 years old. His older brother and sister were killed in an auto accident. He has always been extremely close to his parents, being their only surviving child.
February 25th, his father passed after a short battle with cancer. Hit him hard. He was still coping with that when, two weeks ago on May 25th, his mother passed unexpectedly. 90 days to the day as when his dad passed. They lived five hours away and she had done nothing about cleaning his dad's things out. We told him to return home and take all the time he needed. Legal, financial, house, furniture, etc., etc. Just an unbelievably difficult task to be suddenly thrust into.
About noon, today, we were advised he had passed early this morning of a major heart attack. He was 36 years old!!! Never married, so did not have spouse or children. Has hit many of us awfully hard. A genuinely nice young man gone entirely too soon.

Pretty somber at the course, yesterday. Young man was liked by everyone. We have an excellent staff and they are really stepping up. Sometimes a tragedy allows you to see the real character of people. Having such capable and committed staff allows the Board time to make strategical decisions and work through the situation for the best of the course. The long winter... course shut down for 13 days due to flooding... a fairway mower that decided to give up the ghost... has left us short on revenue and high on expenses. We need things to really "click" to have a chance of "getting well" during the remainder of the year. We had no worries about the young man who passed in making that happen. And... we are very positive the staff on board will work diligently to achieve the same goals.

Just got word, the young man's roommate was life-flighted to a regional medical center yesterday. They thought he was having a heart attack. He is in stable condition and appears to be a minor attack. (There is NO "minor" heart attack!) Think they can medicate with blood thinner and he will be okay. Sheesh!
