Depending on the course/conditions, I have a great 2 iron blade that I love.

If the distance is right and you feel good with the club, use it. I have debated buying a TaylorMade Rescue 2 for that reason - a club that I can hit 200-215 with some loft...

If you think you get funny looks when you bust out your 2 iron (happens to me frequently)... You should see the looks I get when I bust out my 1 iron :smilie_pi .

I'll tell you why they look at you funny.

I'm being serious here...it's because they are obsolete. Are you still using a persimmon driver as well?

The hybrids have taken over for people that have trouble with a fairway wood. Most people hav to work way too hard to get the same substantail yardage from a 2 iron as they would from a 5, 7 wood or a hybrid.

I get 210 yards or so from a nice easy swing with a 5 wood, the club does most of the work. I can get the same or a little less from a 2 iron but I have to swing alot harder and the results vary greatly.

I'm not.

I can hit long irons and they usually go far but I get better results with a fairway wood and an easier swing which translates into a straighter shot. That's my experience.

How about buggy whips? you still need one or are you driving a model T now? ;)

I don't own a 5 wood, I carry either my 1 iron or 2 iron in every round I play depending on the one I feel more confident with that day. 5 woods are useless for me considering the wind I play in every day. A hard 2 or 1 iron goes as far as others drives in the winds and the only miss hit I have is a weak block. I find longer irons easier to hit solid then my 9 and pw.
