I just got back from Golfsmith and it was my first time hitting on a true launch monitor with club head speed and RPM's. I hit my club first then the D1, and D2, a Hibore XL and a Burner Tp. I wanted to hit a FT5 tour but they only had the regular and the shaft options they had were pretty poor and with the spin ratios I was getting I didn't even bother. The testing might be a little skewed, I hit my club first and I took my first 5 swing average with the 425 and there were some bad swing in there so my numbers I wrote down are a little worse because of the bad swings I have averaged in there.

Also I omitted the two worst swings that I had with the D2 and Hibore. When I really went after it and had club head speeds of 120+ I was getting some crazy spin numbers in the 7000-8000 range so I just took my smooth swing averages. They didn't have a burner TP to demo so one of the guys there took one off the rack and I only hit it a couple of times and I frogot to write down the carry numbers and I only wrote down the numbers on the only good swing I had. I also could tell I was getting tired about half way through and you can tell by looking at my SS #

I also took a bunch of warm up swing with some irons and my swing speed with a MP57 six iron was a 100 mph average. The guy from golfsmith helping me said I should be playing X-flex in everyting but he said I could get away with playing the shaft I have in my driver because its a little heavier and the Reax TP plays stiff. Take a look and tell me what you think I was surprised how well the numbers were with the Hibore XL.

Go buy a HiBore XL. Best smash, best spin, best distance. And that's with that crappy Fuji in it. My guess is that's the sort of shaft you're looking for, only more consistent.

10 yards? That's alot of yardage on every hole. If you get another degree on your launch, you'd pick up another 10 yards, easy.

Nice swingin'.

I agree with the ROCK.

A hi-bore head with 2* more loft and a shaft with a slightly stiffer tip should give you about 15 added yards over what you were getting here.

I'm already looking, if I went to a X-Stiff would that have an effect on the spin will it lower it? Also Lyle if I go up 2* would that increase spin. I'm kind of hesitant to go to 11.5 I have never had a driver over 9.5. Ideally I would like to raise my launch angle but lower my spin a bit.

The loft will raise your launch angle, and an extra stiff shaft will help negate some of the increased spin. My opinion says if you were swinging the 9.5 XL/ stiff, go with a 10.5 XL/ X-stiff. Your spin numbers are pretty low already, so even if spin goes up 600-700 rpm, the add launch angle will still be worth it. My thinking has changed on this since reading what Tom Wishon had to say about it.

EDIT: Looking at the numbers again, I'd just put a protopype in the R7. Highest ballspeed from that one, even though it wasn't the highest smash factor. Go really low spin shaft in the TP, and you're set. I hear the 660tr is like twenty bucks now.

I would try a 9.5* HiBore XL (they always play higher than stated loft) and see if you can't get one with a Graphite Design or the like in it. Something with a tad bit more spin.

Global has a whole bunch for sale.

Im looking at a 10.5 with the stock Fuji red 70g in an X on GG. I think that should get me close and I can always tweek the shaft later.:)

Here are my best 3 swing XL 9.5* #

1. bs-167 ss-115 la-8.2 rpm's 3130 carry 278

2. bs-159 ss-109 la-10.2 rpm's 2710 carry 266

3. bs-164 ss-113 la-10.2 rpm's 2639 carry 278

The Xl was one of the last clubs I hit and I was getting tired I think I could expect to see high 160's maybe low 170's ball speed.

With a 160 ball speed optimum launch angle should be 12-13.5* with a spin rates 2750-3200.

With a 170 ball speed optimum launch angle should be 11-12* with spin rates 2500 2700.

Do you think going to a 10.5 X could get me pretty close to the above numbers?

First Ball you hit thin I think?
I am more biased to the TM, not just because IM selling mine, but I think the HIbore feels like : Explicit :: Explicit :: Explicit :: Explicit :

Like they said LA needs to be 12-14Any spin under 2900 is ideal.
Heavier shaft will definitely lower spin, But I noticed that when I tried a 86g? After swinging 63's That My swing path moved on me, and I wasent hitting the face at all, I would almost say get a S flex, and tip it slightly stiff, and that would be a perfect match. And stay light, under 70g.

IMO but I guess: who am I:
