Wedges.. just did the old trick? of an 8i xstiff DG shaft in a Maltby 56/12 TSW. Intent is a Sand wedge.
Have not had a lot of time with it.. 9 holes and short practice session. Seems ok, but then again, I am not very good at the short game. (or any of all of it).
At a par 4 I had 90ish yards to the flag from a clean tight fairway lie. Went against my gut, hit the wedge. back side of the green..yay! surprised at the distance. Nice to be on in 2!
It has also worked well in the hard to medium sand here .. I found more sand than usual last Thursday, and that was only 9 holes... lol. so that's great actually. My Cleveland 60/12 was just too much loft, for my lousy swing. ball never went far at all.

So, decided to get the TSW 50 deg head, but will try the KBS Hi-Rev, stiff in it. Both in transit and the weather sux, so i'll have to be patient. Also changing out the KBS Tour 90R out of my Hogan 58 wedge, to the KBS Hi-Rev.

I keep asking my self , how the h*ll did I end up with a R flex iron shaft in the Hogan 58?
Looks like i will have a wedge lineup of 50, 54/8? (cleveland ) , 56/12 sand and 58/6 or 8 bounce for lob-jobs, maybe. PW is a 45 JPX921

I scored a set of TM P770 irons a month or so ago. They have beefy KBS120 stiff shafts on them. They look stunning and are lovely to hit but about 10 yards shorter than my gamers, and they don't tolerate anything but a perfect hit. My plan was to pop in a set of graphite shafts to juice them up a bit.

Last week I was 2/3 into a bottle of Merlot when I spied a set of Mizuno JPX 900 Hot Metals on the Bay. Before I knew it I had acquired them. Luckily I had the presence of mind to get them shipped to the office, so Mrs IG is none the wiser. They arrived promptly and I have to say the irons are minty fresh, currently sporting a set of 115g True Temper stiff shafts. I took them to the range a few nights ago. I had the 6 iron up against my current gamer and the TM P770 and hit about 10 balls with each. So my thoughts.

My TM SLDR irons have been in my bag for 9 years. Nothing has budged them, the grooves are wearing out. But the flight is consistent, they still look lovely and I feel very comfortable with them. I hit my 6 about 175 ish +/- 5 yards.

The TM P770 irons are golf porn, they look stunning, and when you catch one on the sweet spot, it feels like butter. However they are not the most forgiving and I'm definitely losing distance, thanks to the shafts.

The Mizzys look a little chunky, nothing too offensive. But oh my, they do fly and are very easy to hit. Shot after shot, I was pounding these things. They are super forgiving and feel quite soft. They fly higher without spinning up.

So my conclusions:

I'm keeping the Mizzys, I'm getting older/weaker and need the forgiveness/distance of these irons. My pride will take a glancing blow, but will recover quickly when my scores get submitted.
The Mizzys will get the graphite treatment over the holidays - the Xcaliber shafts are already in my garage. I've gone regular but will tip them to be a little firmer.
I will put the TMs P770s back on the Bay and hopefully cover my initial outlay. I'll be sad to see them go, but they are too much mustard for this hot dog. Like a 20-year-old nympho, nice to look at and hit occasionally, but can't keep up with the steady demands required. Some young gun can enjoy them more.
I'll keep my SLDRs as a back-up, I think they will be buried with me.

I'll post pics when I have them ready. Gotta love all this golfing madness!!

The 50 Maltby wedge works very well, IT’s confidence inspiring. Also getting along with The 56 I’m getting along with well.

Cool deal on the Mizunos, Mr. Irish.
I’m liking the 921 forged version I recently got. No longer afraid of the 150 7i distance. Only problem I have is hitting them with a left hook. While I always need to work on my so called Swing, I just ordered two NS Pro 950 Neos shafts. What I have now are Modus3 105. Both in R. Will swap out the 6 and 7.
Would welcome any opinions on the upcoming shaft change .

The latest on my winter project. I have now built up the 4-7 irons with the JPX 900 heads and my 50-degree TM wedge head with the new rev version of the XCaliber shafts. I got to the range mid-week to hit 'em and I lined up the 6 iron v. my current gamer. I got some flight scope data and the big reveal is...they were practically identical in terms of performance. :D

The specs are fairly similar, but the TM is sleeker v. the Mizzy, which is more chunky. The Mizzy has a different feel, softer/deader and is a little more forgiving than the TM SLDR. But long and short is that I would be happy hitting either. I've nearly worn out the TMs after 10 years of solid use, so these will be the heir apparent.

I'll finish up the build and take some photos, but so far they look very slick. I've put some Ionic grips on and am very happy with how they are performing.
