I think Se Ri Pak's Major victory in 1998 had something to do with the explosion of women's golf in Korea. She was sort of the pathfinder, pioneer, trailblazer.
Se Ri is a huge influence in the popularity of golf in Asia. In Japan, women's golf is twice as popular as men's golf for TV ratings and interest. Ai Miyazato is a Japanese player who joined the LPGA last year. When she is home is Japan she is literally treated like a rock star. I do agree that the focus during their childhood is a big reason that they are this good, but the reason they chose golf is because it is so popular there for the women.
**they are expanding more tournaments into Asia, as they are able to get more sponsors because of the interest**
