Who here uses blades?

I'm about a 16-17 handicap, and while wating on my Cleveland TA2's (they're on lay-a-way), I'm using a freinds old TA1 blades, and I am able to hit them well. Does anyone else know of a higher handicapper like myself managing with blades?

Thanks,

Copperas

Oh, oh, me, me, me!

I play blades. Well, they're in my golf bag anyways. Some days, I play blades. Other days, the blades play me.

I must seriously advise than the average joe weekend warrior type to stay away from blade irons. They deserve and need huge amounts of respect in the form of practice and patience.

If you say you play double digits, i would advise against using blades. A good cavity set would definitely be right up your alley over blades.

Just my 2 cents, being that I am a moron that uses blades. :)

Your handicap range is the reason many golf club manufacturers offer so many types of over size cavity back designs. These new designs offer consistency in accuracy over blades. But a well hit blade does has a very desirable feeling, even if you only experience it 20-30% of the time! I am a 14 hcp and I love my new Cleveland Launchers!

I play the Cleveland TA1 Blade. I learned the game on a set of Wilson 71 series tourblades when I was a kid. I tried playing Ping Zing's when they first came out. I hit them well but didn't like not feeling my mis-hits and touch shots around the green. I really got lazy and my focus was not there using anything but blades.

Copperas, you should take Rock's advice, he's a single digit handicap, almost scratch.

Losers like me use blade, and I lose 1 club distance. But they just feel good :)

Mac 1025M - call them what you want, they look like a blade but are more forgiving (like the MP-32)... some days they're great, others just so-so. I like them for the thin top line.

Like Rock said, they take some getting used to, but once you have them dialed, you don't notice that much of a difference. On mishits (bad ones) maybe a club or 1/2 club.

The cosmic ballet continues.... :D

Couldn't this be said for any club out there? Blades just take alot of practice and patience. If you have little of either, you'll know right away.

As VT says, it's the feel of puring just one that keeps you coming back for more.

Unless you are in a dark alley and you are face with a situation. Then I'd be looking for as many blades as I could swing. :wow:

LISTEN TO THE ROCK, HE IS A WISE MAN! BLADES NO GOOD FOR DOUBLE DIGIT PLAYA. USE THE FORCE (GAME IMPROVEMENT CLUBS). NO-ONE LOOKS COOL HITTING "HARD TO HIT" IRONS SIDEWAYS.

I wouldn't even think about trying blades until I was an 8 or better. That means that in all likelihood I'll never swing a blade.

Actually I have just bought a set of Mac 675s, sold as the most forgiving blades ever. I used to own MacGregor Blades but gave up on them when my game started going south (work, study, blah, blah, blah). Too hard to nail.

Anyway I then used (and still hit) the Zuno Zoids Pro, great irons. They are 8 years old, so I figured I would try something else. Last year, for the craic, I thought i would order up a set of clones from www.monarkgolf.com which as it turns out were Nike Progressive wannabes. Great clubs with DG S300 shafts. I still have the 9i and PW in my bag, but I have gone back to the Zunos for the rest. Very easy to hit, but in all honesty the top line was a bit chunky and it was a bit harder to hit lower traj. irons.

I tried out the Macs and fell in love. But I'm not proud. If I find them too hard to hit they'll be back on eBay quicker than shit thru a short dog. I have no desire in trying to nail 4 irons off a sweet spot smaller than a fly's tackle. I'm way past that stage of my golfing prowess.

I love the R&D guys in golf. They have made the game easier for us. Point is that the Marketing Monkeys make us think we can play the same clubs as the pros.

"Hitting that knife like blade with the microscopic sweet spot was like butta",

"Yeah right. So that's the front nine, the back nine and the match you owe me for Mr. professional. That will be one turkey please!" :D

"Yeah, but.... :faintthud "

I started with old crappy blades, I think I had a 5-7-9 iron and that's it. And now (for about 6 years) have moved to cavity back irons.

Blades versus improvers are no different to say the difference between a G2 and a 983E.The heads are smaller and so is the sweetspot. The top edge is fat and ugly on an improver, but thats for a reason, you fillings won't fall out.Improvers go straighter, higher and mishits make it over the ladies tee.The offset that improvers generally have help to get the club square. You can even get improvers with forging slightly less hard that diamonds now.And if you slice a cavity back take up baseball.

Apart from that no difference at all.

ps blades can be shaped and they go lower, thats it

I only use the TA1's when practicing, I will use cavity backs at tournaments (I'm on my high school's golf team). I was told that if I get used to the blades, I'll feel like I'm getting away with murder when I use cavity backs during important matches. I haven't seen any change in my score since I started using them, but my primary set will still be cavity backs for a while.

Youngun 5, I'm getting my TA2's from a local golf store, used. I'm paying 300 for mine, but that includes a lie addjustment. You can usually find them on ebay for under 300.
