Why do all the courses around here suck?

You think living in the Bay area would be nice for some nice places to play golf. But.... no. I mean there are some nice ones, but 40 miles from my house. The courses around here are the legandary crappy courses Deep Cliff and Blackbarry. With greens slower than your carpet at home, it's no good to practice there. Sorry, I just had to vent.......

Is it just the greens that are bad..or other things as well?

And 40 miles...thats 30-45 mins away, or are there traffic problems making the journey longer? Worth doing once a week for a decent day of golf, no?

I live in New Mexico my local courses are fine. Quite fun but I drive 10-20-30-40 mins away I have access to some spectacular golf. I don't do the drive often but every 3 weeks or so I go treat myself.

Well, I live in the North Bay, Sonoma County, and we have close to 15 to 20 courses within 30 minutes and most of them are quality. Only a couple are high quality, but beause the courses are so close they have some price wars. Green fee's have been going down. :)

Robert, I am shocked at you! You live in that area and don't understand politically correct priorities? Don't you know that golf is a game played by rich white guys like you and me? Now where should money be spent - on golf courses or caring for the homeless or making sure no one is smoking in a park somewhere?

Sorry, couldn't help myself. :D Seriously, though, I have played some pretty bad courses, but I would still rather be playing a bad course than not playing!
