Why are forums like ham n egg and freegolfinfo so sucessful, I'm not disrespecting them at all and they are really good forums and I like them both, but ot be honest they use cheap software compared to here fgi charges $40 to be a premium member hamm n egg $10-30, they both have loads of members os it the advertsinig purpose? Even people like nsherman will admit fgi with soem spare money could upgrade to vbulletin.

The thing I liked most about FGI was the huge international participation.

The Administrator threatened to ban me when I posted by TennisBumBishop CBS Interviews though.

I got dozens of positive replies on the parody. People admitted that TBB did little more than ask questions about equipment, and never bought anything. He would not take lessons and basically was a ho of the first order.

Then the Admin threatens to ban me - so I said - so long. If you can't recognize parody then don't read the Harvard Lampoon....

We are building well here and we are building QUALITY. We don't have a bunch of jerks and nobody flames.

It's a fun social group...

We need more Europeans and Aussies. I'd like some South Africans to come along...

Yep the international flavour is good, I think a slightly smaller comunity is good as well any more than a 1000 members active on a board and things start to get mubble jumble.

It's all so fascinating.

I don't care for FGI myself just because of it's size, ditto BSG. I have found one site that scams the players who are like lambs to the slaughter. They charge an annual $40 fee to become a "player". For that fee you get a colored tag, a shonky logo and some added functionality that I give here for FREE!

They also took donations to move to a dedicated server...who knows how much that took in but the lates whois lookup indicates to me that they are still on a shared server hosting close to 600 other websites. You figure it out. ;)

Bottom line?
some day you feckers are going to make me rich!! :D :D

Sling a idea to help with payments etc... would be now that the site is gorwing at bit and I feel over the next months will grow incredibly fast, to make a little cash out of it you could advertise I know you said you didn't want to do that but it would make money.

Also like a premium membership for like $10-20 a year, with a couple of additional features if possible.

I would kill for a Microsoft .NET flavored vBulletin.
The forum offerings available to us MS guys leave much to be desired.
We keep hacking the forum software to improve it, all the while drooling on Shot Talk and the others.

Just the same, we try to do interesting things.

Welcome golf links

Your board looks good, but as you said there isn't anything as good as vbulletin, some of the v bulletin versions are nothing great but this 3.0.6 version is just the bees knees, that's why slings site will do really well you can't get better board software and features. I think sites like golf n ham which are really good and have tons of members run oh phpbb which is good software but less than half the price of v bulletin, so sling should get something in return. Cosmetics of a board go a long way.

Thank you Master. We worked hard on Golf Links.

While I agree that cosmetics are very important, usability is my #1 desire.
Don't make me navigate back to the post list just so I can start a new thread.
This is one of the improvements we are working on.

It's all about the hacks baby!

On it's own it's nothing special, so one has to add the proper color scheme as well as loads of code changes to bring added fuctionality.

The thing that sucks it if a board upgrade comes along I lose all my hacks and hav to redo all of them. I need to learn how to use a merge program before I try an upgrade.

BTW....

Welcome aboard, Golf links!
