Jeez, Nike and Sony must have money coming out of their asses.

Nike I can sort of understand, but Sony? I have 2 Sony VCRs and a CD mega-changer and they are top-of-the-line and excellent, but I wouldn't buy A/V equipment based on a golfer.

I would guess Sony because of her cultural background (Asian). Good connections.

Good for her. I can't wait to see her on Tv hocking MP3 players, "kickin' it before a big tourney". :biglol:

If you follow the texas rangers (stop laughing) you would know that the japanise and koreans are fiercly loyal. If a player they like endorses something they will buy it.

We still have koreans that think chan ho park should be in the hall of fame. Every loss was someone else's fault.

Nice way to start a day of high school. Imagine the talk at the lunch room table. What did you do this morning before class? Watched some cartoons. ate some breakfast, and fed the dog. What did you do this morning, Michele? Went to the club, signed two contracts worth $10 million, donated $500k to charity, and took a limo in to school. You know, same old, same old for a typical high schooler.

Anyone else have a feeling that the second coming of the "Tiger Effect" is going to happen to women's golf? With a great Solheim Cup and Wie, Creamer, and Pressel pressing the the established LPGA pros, women's golf is getting ready to explode.

So Sony is playing on the Asian heritage angle, eh? Isn't Wie's ancestry Korean? I imagine there is some nail-biting going on at Sony headquarters.

Gosh, the folks on the 19th Hole were on Wie's case last night. The pressure on her to win in the next 6 months will be enormous.

I caught the end of the show last night after work. Yup, they were being pretty hard on her. I do not seem to recall anyone complaining when Tiger went pro that he was making more in endorsements than any other golfer at the time. Wie is going to be just like Tiger, or at least has the potential to be just like Tiger and I do not have a problem with sponsers forking over big bucks to lock her up in a long term contract. What was Nike Golf before Tiger came around? It barely even exhisted and now its one of the industry leaders. Michael Jordon effect, Tiger effect, and now a Wie effect.

I also saw the Nike rep's press conference and he stated that Wie will be playing with 14 Nike clubs in her bag and made it sound like that was one of the contract stipulations. I guess she was not powerful enough to warrant a Tiger clause which allows him to select other manufacturers equipment to play in tournement rounds.

Nicely said OB.
People bashing M. Wie are the jealous envious ones.
Shame on them.

I will agree that she has a lot of potential and sure, she's only 15/16 years old but, to get $10 million without "proving" herself could possibly rob her of the need to actually "prove" herself. To be set for life without having to win anything may well keep her from ever winning.

Maybe its just me but give me $10 million and I may lose my competitive spirit. Of course, I may not be a "champion" or whatever that is supposed to be.

I don't get this.

Sponsors offer her enough money to make herself and her family comfortable for the rest of their lives, and people expect her to say "no"??

Good on her, I say.

How many of you guys would say no if you were offered $10m for playing golf?

I would've held out for $12. :p

Having all the money in the world didn't stop Tiger from becoming a true champion and if it's in her blood it won't stop her either. Too soon to know though.

Don't take this as dirty old man talk, but I think that it helps that she's fit, and quite cute. Being a good looking person sure helps with endorsements, that's forsure.

I dunno how many tight spandex commercials I wanna see Laura Davies or Nancy Lopez in. But that's just me.

Take Anna Kournikova. She sucks, but she still make millions. Britney too. Jennie Finch is awesome, but who plays professional softball?

How many WNBA players are making money hand over fist? Hardly any. That's because they're all butch (that's harsh, but true).

I'd gladly sit and try and read the label on Michelle's back pocket any day before I'd have a gander at some of the other "ladies" on the LPGA tour.

Any hetero guy would. And that's why she's making bucks. Nice faces sell product.
