I was in Smokey Mt. National Park this past weekend. Are you anywhere close to that?

Shit you were closeby. He's in Chattanooga. You should have looked him up for quick round...

Unfortunately no time. We drove 10 hours Thursday night, hiked 8 miles Friday, 6 miles Saturday, and 3 Sunday before driving back. I'm tired as all hell.

Here's a funny little story from the trip.

This is a pic of me and a deer that got unusually close to us. As you can see, I have more than enough artillery in the bicep department to beat Spank's ass:

I kept throwing it crackers, but it wouldn't take the bait. However, it did stop at a specific spot in the woods to munch some grass:

It just so happens that I urinated there about five minutes beforehand. Here's a pic of the deer feeling ashamed about eating my urine:

Buddha, next time plan your trip a little better. ;)

My home course is in the mountain "widerness" North of Chattanooga. Full 18 holes of beautiful golf (No cart, there's your hiking), It also opens itself to registration so that you can hike the woods around it, rock climb, and do some caving. You coulda had it all, grasshopper. Except, I'm not sure any of the deer would have chomped your urine...

You're in good shape....I am stairmastering three times a week and carrying my bag once a week (equivalent of 5 miles) and still cannot really get myself in good condition....

You picked a great weekend to go...weather was good.

The weather was beautiful during the weekend. I froze my ass off on Friday night though. This Florida boy ain't used to that thar cold weather.

As for being in shape, I'm willing to bet you could have done it. The worst was a 3 miles stretch straight uphill on Saturday. That was a bitch.

Good to see that you're sticking with the excercise. It sucks but it's going to take longer to get in shape at "our age". What took a month when I was thirty, takes three or four months now.

Be patient and stick with it, the results will come.

You nailed that one...

I am increasing my weights about every two weeks or so but will level them off after the next increase. I don't want to 'bulk up'...

But I still have that damn stiffness after I exercise - especially the next day. I walked and carried on Saturday and felt great. Never out of breath and felt super as we walked off.

Then I wake up Sunday and I am stiff here and there...this is frustrating because I am using this weight machine will pulleys that is designed to exercise the muscles you use when you play..

So I guess buddha is right - from a wind standpoint - I am OK. I could probably do the 3 mile hike without a problem, but the next day - I'd be stiff....

I don't know if there's a way around this one. Every time I lift or do a hard run I'm sore the next day or two after. I'd focus on a lot of stretching and light resistance training if I were you. Perhaps you're going at it a little too hard.

How many reps are you doing per set? If you're not looking to bulk up, do less resistance and more reps.
