The Open Championship Discussion Thread

I've read many a story on The Open this year from Rory to Royal Portrush. Can't wait.

Also...Mark, I'll be visiting in the next few years. Book it.

Ok, so the latest gossip, coming to you from the North Coast. It's all gone a bit mad in terms of Open frenzy. Even the practice days have been sold out. Outside St. Andrews, it's a record crowd (~248K) for the week. My sons have been there most days, the young kid now has just about everyone's autograph. The middle guy is enjoying marshaling. My oldest guy is working in hospitality.

The weather up to yesterday was perfect, light breeze, sunshine. But today kicked off with heavy rain and a strengthening wind. It will give the competitors an idea of what is to come over the next few days, as the forecast is quite mixed. Personally, I'm delighted as it will give you all some idea of what I play in most of the year-round. I'd love to see a 20mph+ breeze for a day anyway.

The players all seem quite relaxed, that will change tomorrow as they get their "game faces" on. But most are highly complimentary of the course and the crowds. I think this will become a popular Open venue.

We will be going tomorrow for the day, I can't wait. We will have x2 10-year-olds with us, I'm not sure how long their enthusiasm will last. And we will be prepared for some rain showers. I've also got a ticket for Friday, so I should see my fill of live-action.

I've no idea what sort of scores the guys will shoot. The course is soft and lush and not horrendously long, so straight hitting is a premium. The greens will not be lightning, so perhaps the field will be widened. It is certainly not a bombers course.

Big Dazza Clarke will hit the opening tee shot tomorrow at 6.35am, a fitting moment for someone who played a big role in getting the Open to Northern Ireland. Hopefully, it will kick off a great Open.

BRING IT ON!

Has the Open ever been postponed due to lightning flashing around? I would say, with no trees, there would be a lot of potential targets roaming around the course.

I can't recall lightning. Wild winds are the usual cause of postponement.

By the way, the course is full of buried elephants.

Man, Rors opened with a quad, finished with a triple. +8 79 on the day.
You can’t win the Open on the first day, but you can definitely lose it. Looks like a wasted pick in my quiver. :(

J.B. Holmes..................That came out of nowhere.
