Being a Euro my viewpoint is probably a tad warped, for example we are used to soccer games ending in a draw, so bear with me.
If a tour player wins a major he receives 10 year exempt status on the PGA Tour. To the victor goes the spoils. If over 72 holes another player posts the same result, he gets nada if he looses the playoff. He becomes exempt for the specific tournament (eg. Master or Open) the next year. Would it be fair to extend a 3 or 5 year exemption to a player like that on the PGA Tour? Basically he has accomplished the same result over 72 holes as the winner, shouldn't that mean something more than a big paycheck?
