Gents,

Back in the land of cold. Great trip. I could go on for days, but I'll give the highlights and lowlights.

Notable Memories

Barbados is a great place. Lush, green and hot. The water is spectacular, far exceeding my expectations and my memories of Jamaica by far.

Not alot of golf to be had for the layman, as three of the 5 courses on the island are private. One course is a muni and plays as so. I took no pictures of any courses for two reasons:

1. The muni's were garbage. Not worth photos.

2. Sandy Lane would not allow photography for the benefit of it's guests. (Basically, it's snob central and full of prickish English people. I'm not saying the people from England are pricks, I'm saying that people that stay at Sandy Lane are. Big difference. ;))

Here's the link to Sandy Lane if you care to look: Sandy Lane Golf Course Barbados

The Barbados Golf Course, which was the track I was scheduled to play, was very nice from the drive by that we had. The chap that I was to play with came down with Dengue Fever of all things and couldn't make it. I was pretty bummed, but a few rum punches killed all that feeling. I mean, playing with a rented set of clubs (Cobras), paying $175 and playing in 110* heat wasn't as charming as you might think.

The beach beckoned a bit more, I'm sad to say. :D

I did a bit more site seeing than anything. Here's a few photos of my wanderings around the island.

This "charming fellow" was happy to pose next to Ragged Point, which is where the Caribbean Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean meet. Interesting trivia tidbit for you there.

The accomodations.....perfect balance of house and nature. Beautiful...

Here's a shot of the neighbours. They did their best to wander through our yard on a daily basis. The guava, cantelope, banana, lime and mango trees growing all over the property will do that....

With only two golf courses to choose from, one that was terrible and a partner with Dengue, how can this not call to you and tug at your inner child?

I would (and will) go back in a heartbeat.

On a golf related note, I was sitting in the LoneStar Restaurant just north of Holetown, Barbados, having myself a Heneiken and some linguine, when who walks in but freaking Ian Woosnam! My wife and I were the only two in the place until he bellied up to the bar and bought a beer. A group of people I'm assuming he was meeting there finally came and the one guy introduced his wife to Ian. I wanted so much to go and chat with him, but I thought better of it. I mean, the guy's on vacation, right? Why be a dick and slobber all over him?

That was my star sighting of the trip. Very cool.

Anyways, I'm super tired right now from travelling. I'll try and spice this thread up a bit more with some other pics as soon as I can.

Anyways, I'm back. Glad to be home, but missing that blue water like crazy.:(

PS...VT, Silver Moon was a fantastic recommendation. Kudos. I'd go back and do that again in a heartbeat!

Really awesome Rock, welcome back.

Nice pics! But, um, I didn't know there was a Caribbean Ocean. :p

Looks like a beautiful house. I love the Caribbean. I'm going to PR in January, staying at a friend's beach house on the south shore. I've been there before and, while not in the same league as Barbados, is still a nice destination. Gorgeous beaches, and crystal-clear blue lagoons. Can't beat it.

It's cheap too. I got a round trip from Tampa (3 hours) non-stop for $192.00 on American Airlines (that includes all taxes and fees). I was shocked, but happy.

Sounds like you had a great time Rock. Not much golf, but oh well..

Rock - I am glad you guys enjoyed the Silver Moon. Were the turtles cooperating that day? It's a pretty cool expereice to play with them in their natural habitat.

Is that beach the one that the guys on the catamaran stopped at, or one close to your condo?

Hey, welcome back Rock. Looks like you had a fantastic time there in Barbados. I would love to go there after seeing your pics. Lol I like that monkey, or whatever it is. I bet you are just dying to go back to work now.

Welcome back. Glad you had a safe trip. Pics look great and I can see why you put golf on the back burner. I would have had to say hello to Ian Woosnam though and throw in the story about the playing partner and what not. You never know, he might have had an opening in his group.

Lots of fun with the turtles. One made a move on me and I thought I might lose a nut, but I ended up riding it rodeo style as it made it's way through the water. Pics of the underwater are being developed, if there are any good ones, I'll post them.

That's Mullins Beach. It's West coast, about 2/3 the way up the coast. Completely deserted by other beach standards (maybe 10 people, max). It's next to Gibbs, which is about 500m south of that shot. That spot I'm standing is about a 2 minute walk from our villa. I didn't even wear shoes to the beach, barefoot the whole way.

So sweet.

Rock, did you make it the Mount Gay Rum factory? Top bloke called Chester does a very entertaining tasting session there - sore head city the next day.

I loved Barbados, there are some photos of me looking very sorry for myself as we are about to leave for the flight home :(

Great food, people and obvioulsy the weather and scenery are beautiful, glad you enjoyed it. I can fully appreciate the sentiments regarding the golf, a 9 hole par 3 course was enough for me before I sought sanctuary in the pool bar.

I went on the Appletons tour when I was in Jamaica. Same shit, different island.

We spent alot of time on the beach and exploring the lesser areas that aren't as touristy. Places like Farley Hill and Bathsheba. Very cool local people there and picturesque to match.

I brought back a 40oz bottle of the highest premium Mount Gay I could find for a friend that is a big rum drinker. He'll be floored. That bottle would go for nearly $70 here, I paid a measely $14 for it.

I ate a ton of fish when I was there. Marlin, flying fish, snapper, grouper, dolphin(mahi mahi), etc.

You make it to the boatyard at all?

Boatyard- like where they keep all the boats in dry dock?

If that's some place on St Lawrence Gap, then no. I avoided that place like the plague.
