School me on dogs

Tough to lose them especially to cancer. My parents Yellow had to be put down because of cancer when i was about 10 i believe.

Thanks.

He was the gentlest dog I have ever met. I think this summer might be time for another, and thinking about him it just has to be another lab.

I had to put down SMOKEY our husky last weekend. Broke me up. He was an older dog. Was having seizures and leg weakness. The poor guy couldn't walk.

So I guess I will have to reread this thread as to choosing another do. Right now I'm leaning towards a Lab/Poodle or Lab/Golden mix. If it was not for the shedding the Golden/Lab mix would be hands down choice. The dog will have the run of the house. Goldens shed enough you could weave a rug with the fur. Fore mentioned dogs would be pups so I will wait for spring.

Another choice for me is to look for a mutt 1 to 4 years old. Perhaps a shelter or an owner that needs to find a good home for the pooch.

Anyway Smokey ....I'll miss you.

Sorry about Smokey, zaphod. As you can tell from my screenname, I had Siberian Huskies for many years. Lovable goofs. Funny you should mention the hair. Didn't you love it when your husky shed that undercoat twice a year? :) I used to vaccuum EVERY day during shedding season and with 3 huskies, that still wasn't enough. I had a live in GF, also a veterinarian, who came home one day when the house was ankle deep in fur, and said "I just can't live like this". The huskies stayed, she left.

RIP Smokey

You've described "The Husky Experience" quite well. In replacing the dog there are so many options and so many dogs with -/+ traits. Have you had any experience with a Lab or Golden crossed with Poodle. F1 or F1b1? Or Lab/Golden. Basicaly I looking for a dog which can read huiman body lanquage naturaly, atheletic, yet has a bit of protective nature. If puppy I'll need the cross to predict adult behavior. Or perhaps a 1 to 4 year old rescue where the personality is known. Could be mutt then. He will be house crtitter with access to 4 acres of invisible fenced yard through doggy doors. Could be doggy heaven for the right pooch.

My white dog is some sort of a mix that ended up with a Short haired Samoyed. She has most of the Sammie traits, attitude, intelligence, independence, friendliness, and yes she does love to bark. She still sheds, but it's only an every other day cleanup.

Face looks very lab like. Could be a lab mix?
