What ya want?

I just bought an Xbox 360 yesterday. 20gig HD, Kinect, 2 wireless controllers, and Minecraft game... all for $205 pre-owned from Gamestop with a 1-year full warranty.

These new consoles really are crap compared to a high end gaming PC. Unfortunately for me consoles fit the bill better though.

Even a mediocre gaming PC owns the new consoles. One could build a computer for the same price as the new console, and not only have a superior gaming machine, but it's also a full on PC...I really don't see the big draw(at least for strictly gaming) to get a new console. I need a decent PC at home anyway for work, so throwing a few other items in it for gaming just makes sense.

It is a big deal if you're going to play a lot of multiplayer / split screen type stuff. Which I never do.

It's a big deal when you have kids that want to play games on your computer all the f'ing time.

I think the 360 is the best bang for the buck gaming console available right now. Great in just about every form and fashion, especially since the RROD is pretty much over with. 205 isn't terrible...I picked up mine about 5 years ago from a guy on campus for 250, and that was the Elite with the 120gig, 4 or 5 games, three controllers, four rechargeable battery packs, but I got pretty lucky at the time and saw it quickly on craigslist. He was switching to PS4.

I play a lot of games with my kids. My oldest just turned 6. A console is simple and easy for them to use. I don't have to mess with all the settings to optimize a game. The boys can push the big green button and be gaming in no time. The consoles are traditionally more durable. My 360 has taken a beating for 5 or 6 years and it's still rolling. My 2 sticky fingered rugrats aren't old enough to be using a high end PC yet. Well, I guess my oldest is. Still, if I buy a PC just for gaming I would want to spend an extra buck and get something that will still be relevant in 5 years. If I spend that much, my boys won't touch it. Plus, you can't knock consoles too much. They are more efficient in a sense that they don't have to run Windows. I also think the multiplayer community is larger on consoles and that is where I spend almost all my time when I'm gaming by myself. Also, it's nice to pile up with my family in front of the TV to play games. I would want my PC at a desk. When my kids get a little older, I will definitely think about a gaming PC. Just not right now.

If you have a Wii and an SD card, you can mod it into an emulator and play all the old school games you can handle. My son and I were playing Donkey Kong and Defender last night.

Explain please.

I just got a 250 gig PS3 with the new Batman game and some game called The Last Of Us with one controller for $199. Then got Black Ops 2 and Madden 25 both for $70. Under $300 to this point and waiting till the controllers go on sale to get another.

2 PC's in one? or are you talking about an all in one where the (typically touch screen) display holds the hardware as well?
they are notebook sized touch screens with a full keyboard that can fold out of the way. Its a work / media kinda effort. I havent used one just read about them being popular.

I've messed with a few of those...they're ok. I don't personally see the need for a touch screen on a laptop, but then I've worked with laptops for years.

I hate the all in one craze...yeah, now when your display drops a few pixels you have to either send the whole PC in to get the screen replaced, or replace the entire PC...makes sense. But people eat them up. I don't get it.
