I don't think the year of the motor matters as much as the hours on it and how well it was maintained. Either way... I'm not stupid, really, I'm not going to ever go 2 miles out on lake Michigan let alone without an extra motor, battery, and gas. Or my first time out. On the big lake, this is a shoreline cruiser.

Why so cheap? Did you water test it? Compression test?
Water ran it with muffs and a hose. Fired right up. No compression test. Its not a blind buy. Buying from a friend who acquired it cheap via a family member moving out of state. He needs $ more than he has a use for it so... He's making a couple hundo for basically having it for two weeks and selling to me. He's a straight shooter and a mechanic so if something went wrong he'll right it. If not for that I probably wouldn't have bought it.

I think so. It is fiberglass, so its kinda heavy while not being a total tank. And no, its not a tri-hull.
That is cool then. I dont know about marine engines. Just cars. The various seals that do air/fuel on the top of the engine seem to age, and after 20 years...but not the carb itself, which is often rebuilt, the bits it is on top of and connected to are the culprits.
