Well, it's official now. Well, sort of. I'm "officially" out of the army on September 9th, but I'm on leave (aka vacation) until then, which is great because I'm still getting paid, lol. So yesterday, I made it home and my wife, 10 month old daughter, and parents were waiting for me at the airport. I saw my daughter for the first two weeks of her life, then again when I came back from Iraq for about a week (that was about a month ago) and now I never have to leave her or the rest of my family again!

I've gained a lot from the army, I met a few great people, and I think it helped me become who I am today, but I'm extremely glad to be done. Me and my wife have been married for about 30 months, and been apart for about 20 of them. Which is the primary reason I'm not still in. Anyway, I just wanted to tell ST!

Went by the local Global Golf yesterday too (talked my wife into it) and I'm sure I'll be frequenting there a little too often. I don't think I'll be getting to play any golf for at least a week though as this little hurricane/tropical storm is coming through =[ Time to work on the putting in the apartment!

Welcome Home!

Congratulations!

And, most importantly, Thank You for your service!!

Thanks a bunch for your Service twelvegage. No matter how rough things are, its men like you who are the reason we are what we are (which is a good thing).

Congratulations and thank you for the service. My BIL got out of the Navy after 8yrs. I think, in February. My niece was born in May of last year and he had to go out to sea for 6 months only weeks later. It's been tough for them to get on thier feet but they have a nice place now. He had 3 different potential jobs in 3 different places that he was very stressed about trying to get one. It was a tough time as my sister had just found out she was pregnant with #2 at the same time. I can't imagine having to feel like everything is hanging in the balance like that for months on end. He got a great job in Maryland but again, no place to move to right away. It was tough for them to find an affordable place since they were very close to DC.

Good luck man.

THANK YOU FOR SERVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome home for good. Thank you for your service and may all the best come to you and your family now. You deserve it.

Certainly, thank you for your service. I fully understand your wish to ETS with a family. The extended and multiple deployments have been extremely difficult on families... especially young families.

My son reup'd for 6 while he was in Iraq. He's gung ho and wanting to make a career out of it. But... he's single. If he meets "Miss Right" (my wife was Miss Right and hasn't been wrong in 42 years... just ask her!), his mind may change. But, by then, the military may be back to a more predictable deployment schedule.

What was your MOS? What do you want to do in civilian life when you get out?

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, it's been a blast hanging out with my wife, daughter, and my parents and sister these past couple days. Tomorrow we've got a family BBQ planned at my parents house where all my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, everyone, is going to be there, so I'm extremely excited about that. I've also ran into a couple friends I haven't seen in about 4+ years.

I was a 42F, which is basically a specialized 42A (if anyone was/is in). That's a human resources specialist. When I signed up, that's what I wanted to go to school for since I'd already have experience for it. Well, after actually doing the job, granted the army's version of HR is way different than the rest of the world, I've decided I want to do something else. I'm not entirely sure what, but University of Houston (where I was accepted to while in Iraq) offers a major called Kinesiology - Sports Administration, which is RIGHT up my alley. Depending on my minor, it could lead me to working in a gym, sports journalism, managing a golf course, basically working with sports in some way. I'm going to talk to a counselor next week and see if this is too good to be true, or if it's what I hope it is. I'm just excited about finally getting to start doing all these things that I've been talking about and planning for so long. Basically, it's the first day of the rest of my life, and it's refreshing to be free. Anyways, thanks again everyone for the kind words =]

Oh, the storm has passed =] I'll be out there soon enough.

After all that rain ya'll had, we will allow you to lift, clean and play for your next 3 rounds, :p Enjoy your time!
