I should have added, that in this particular case , the course was almost completely empty. I chose this course and time of day carefully where golf and social interaction could coexist without disturbing others. At any rate thanks for all the comments and view points.
 
Dude, some people join up and if they had played together before, it would seem to make sense that they would. It happens.

As long as you still get to tag her, it "ain't no thang".

Well everything turned out well in the end. I was upset for a few holes but we talked about it as walked the course and everything turned out fine. Later we disucssed what we would do if it should happen again.
Since I am a first year golfer nothing can really hurt my game more than it already is..
