And no, Rock, I don't mean what you do in the privacy of your bathroom! ;)

At what point do you retire a golf ball? 1st scuff, after so many holes, not until it falls apart or is lost...when?

I had a Taylor Made TP Black which I used from new for 45 holes this week. It was scuffed up something rotten but still did the job. With it being winter conditions I'll use a ball until I loose it or it stops performing as it should. As for Comp's I use new balls but then those balls will be used for practice rounds afterwards.

I seldom have that problem, they ususally find the water or the woods before I have to worry about it, :D

Seriously, I play them until they get a bad enough scuff that I figure it's going to effect it's flight or spin.

I play the ball for the entire round, unless there is a major scuff or cut. If they manage to make it through the round they go in the shag bag and I use in practise and on the practise green.

I got about 15 balls in the shag bag that have made it all the way through competitive rounds now without losing them:laugh: Will have some good Provx's to practise with this summer instead of chipping with range balls:D.

I play with my balls constantly. I fact, I'm typing this with one hand....:ugly25:

I play a ball until I either lose it, or it has a scuff on it that distracts me when I tee it up. I tee my ball with the logo down range, everytime. If the scuff is on the logo, it goes into the shag bag.

wow, name a thread like this and you get TONS of views lol

I usually play mine untill i lose it...or if i am lucky enough to play with one untill its unplayable, i do that. I dont set a number of holes to play with a ball

I lose one about every 4 holes. Lots of water and tight fairways on the courses that I play.

I usually play them for a few rounds, if I dont lose it. I dont think that a shredded ball affects putting on the greens I play.

I'll play a ball until it gets scuffed, usually three to four holes and then it goes into the practice bag.

I have a ProV1x in my bag that was there all year. I like high numbers, and it was an 8. I must have played at least ten rounds with it. It has hundreds of shots. Seemed to really like me, I never lost it. Unfortunately, I cut it last week. The cover is bubbling around the cut, so I guess I'll part ways with it. Its almost like an old friend at this point.

To your question, I play them till I cut em or lose em. I usually play scuffs for second shots if I reload to try a new shot. That is when I lose the most balls.

Until it is lost. Even if it gets beat to crap, to me that is just an indication it must be a lucky ball to survive long enough to get beat to crap.

Although if it is really beat up and lasts to the end of a round I will likely retire it at that point. But 1 scuff, I simply consider that a meager battle scar, where I wouldn't throw out my dog when had a few rough breaks, got beat up by the neighbors cat, but still wanted to fight. :D

The rate you go through balls in this area, they are costly enough without throwing away the ones that come back for more punishment.

I'd go broke.

This is basically what I do. When I don't like a ball, I pass them on to my step son. However, he's starting to learn more about golf balls, so this opportunity is fast ending.

until i lose it. i do find most of my balls in the woods, so my golf ball cost is relatively low.

I usually play a ball until I lose it or it's cut up and not playable. In a tournament, after a couple scuffs I will bring out a new ball.

1 to 2 rounds or sooner if it gets beat up too badly.
I figured, for each ball if I could get one round out of it, it's good; the second round would be a bonus.
Then I'll keep it for practice ball or use it on the driving range.
