"I played Big Ten golf. I played with Steve Stricker. He's a couple years younger than me. I played with Jerry Kelly and we were party animals together. He's building a huge new house. I was the WI player of the year in High School. I once finished sixth in the State Amateur. I played against and know Gary Nicklaus well. I met his father Jack who is a very nice man. I played in two national events with Phil. He's a very talented guy. My former teammate is Rich Beem's caddy. Your daughter should do this. Your daughter should do that. Your wife should do this. Your wife should do that. You should do this. You should do that. I once owned a golf store. The only difference between the pros and me is putting. I can hit it as far Corey Pavin, who I know, so I could compete if my putting was better. Blah, blah, blah, blah."

That's what I listened to non-stop on the front nine yesterday from a guy they put in my cart to play with me, my wife, and my daughter. And when I say non-stop, I mean he talked constantly. Kind of a close talker, too. Typically I'm easy going and enjoy meeting someone new at my club, but this ass hat drove me nuts. After his third piece of advice to my 12 year old, I quietly told him we did not need lessons from him while on the golf course as he was making her very nervous. He was also one of these guys that likes to encourage you. "You should be happy with that shot. Good shot. Not bad at all." Had to listen to that crap for the whole nine as I'm playing like sh!t and my back is bothering me.

He did shoot 37, though he hit two drives into the woods on the 8th hole, and then found his "first" drive right on the edge of the trees about 30 yards up from where it entered the woods. That was convenient considering when I asked what we were looking for he said a Taylor Made but he wasn't sure what numbers were on the ball. He made bogey when he was looking at 8 or 9.

The guy drove me crazy and I shot a 45 on the front. I asked him if he wanted to play for a couple bucks straight up on the back hoping that would shut him up. He claimed his index was 4, mine is 6, but he said he could only play the front nine.

He was about 15 yards shorter than me off the tee and had this weird punch shot finish. Good player, but a complete tool. Lots of talk. If we ever end up in the same cart again, I'm asking if he wants to play a $20 nassau. He admitted to basically being a house husband so I'm not sure his wife lets him carry $60. He told me I was lucky that my wife and daughter like the game. He said his kids don't enjoy playing and it was disappointing to him because it's the one thing he could really teach them.

After spending an hour and fifty five minutes with him, I can see how they might sour on playing golf.

I refuse to share a cart with someone I don't know & if paired up on the course with that sorta asshat I will tell them to shut up or I will simply leave him/them at that hole & jump up a couple. It's just a game & I am not going to ruin my day out there putting up with know it all pricks.

Asking the "sexual intellectual" if he wanted to play for a few bucks is the proper thing to do. I used to play in a big shoot out crowd where they played teams and kept up with best ball birdes and bogies, all birdies would count so you could actually make more than one birdie on the same hole. Bogey is the worst score your team can make on a hole. It's a fun game but it is not golf.

Anyhow, I play in lots of tournaments and am used to playing a bit more conservative than these guys in order try to shoot the lowest overall score I can. Some of the know it all hot shots would always be spouting off how great they were and how I wasn't as good as them because I didn't make many birdies. Interestlingly enough though, is that I can shoot 76 or 77 with NO birides and do so regularly enough. I would tell them that we will tee it up right now, play the ball down, putt everything out, and I'll play you for whatever you are willing to lose. Never got any takers.

ROTFLMFAO:biglol:

I hate these kind of people.

Yikes. I think I would have brought back this dead guy claiming he had a heart attack on the course but you wanted to finish the round. :D

That was you? You know, your daughter should really flatten her swing out. :D ;)

Kidding aside - I'd a made him walk.

Nah, it's all about ball position in the stance. LOL. He was trying to tell her pretty much exactly what she is working on after her first serious lesson. The thing is we spent time on the range before the round working on ball position. He actually stopped her as she was about to swing on the fourth hole. That's when we had our little talk.

I don't think ANYONE likes to take un-asked for advice during a round.

I go by the - If they don't ask - Don't comment policy. Unless someone (Beginning golfers and the ladies at my course) is/are getting really frustrated with the same thing over and over again, I'll ask them if I can give them a suggestion.

It is pretentious to think that if you shoot well, you coach well. Not true. My dad hasn't beat me in a long while, but he's still a far better coach.

Yep. Unfortunately, knowing what you should be doing and actually doing it are two vastly different things.

Reason #8 for walking over riding....you don't have to listen to ass-hat for 2 hours....you just hit your ball and walk away.

I had one of those on Saturday. Only he didn't have any advice to give.

He kept asking for advice, and I refused, because who I am to offer it up?

He was slow, lost lots of balls, talked too much and otherwise made me have a 5 hour round.

Plus he was right handed, and putted left handed.. Weirdo.

The appropriate response to folks like that is, "Have you committed to Jesus Chirst as your personal savior?" Of course, you need your own half hour monologue to follow up with, just in case.

Barring that, "Have you always had that funny hitch at the top of your backswing?" usually works.

Or, "You know, my husband and I are into swinging."
