I don't golf a lot anymore...too much going on with the kids that is non-golf related.

However, I had a 4 man scramble for work as well as a 9 hole round with my 13 year old son.

My outing team was a 2 time defending champions on this particular day. It was gorgeous. 81ºF, low humidity, partly cloudy, a bit of wind but not terrible. Just a really great day for golf. I'm glad the day was good because my on course performance was not good. The range started out top notch. I was striping irons with great flight. Catching them really clean...butter off the face. Driver was OK at the range, not great, not terrible.

On the course, however, it all fell apart. I only hit 2 drivers all day that were any good at all and one of them went through the fairway and ended up in the woods anyway. Irons were hit and miss. The highlight of the day was a 3w from about 230 out that rolled up onto the green. The problem was that was for birdie as none of us got off the tee box so we had to punch out to 230. Barely made par on a hole we should have eagled. We eagled that hole the last two years. So, needless to say, we didn't win the outing for a third time in a row.

Contrast that to my round with my oldest son. We played Monroe Golf Club. Just the front nine. I shot a +5 39. We had a quick thunderstorm come through after hole 4 but a great round of golf with my boy. He didn't do quite as well as he was hoping shooting a 55. He's taking group lessons at this course(which comes with a junior membership) and has been improving quite a bit. He hit some great shots though and with more consistency I will be in trouble. He's hitting his driver almost as far as I am and his short game around the green is showing promise. Putting needs work though. He 3 putted from inside 10 feet...a couple times lol. I bet he can get it under 50 just by controlling his distance with the putter better. If he can keep it in bounds off the tee he could probably get it into the low 40's.

My middle son enjoys golf too and is also taking lessons at Monroe. Hoping to get him out for a round soon.

My oldest boy is going up to my father in law's cabin for the weekend so I think I might take my middle boy out for a round just me and him.

I'm also looking for clubs for my oldest. He's 6'1" now and the set I bought for my wife is getting too short for him. I think I might build some Maltby irons from Golfworks at this point.
